The fight could not be sanctioned because Ali had been stripped of his Boxing license for dodging the draft and refusing to fight for his country.
In today's Boxing game, money talks and they will allow fights to be licensed matching World Champions with opponents who have never even competed in an amateur Boxing match, and still count towards their official record.
Marciano while completely inactive, old and out of shape KO'd an undefeated Heavyweight, largely considered the Greatest of All Time, while he was the lineal and undefeated Heavyweight World Champion and this is supposed to not count to his record? It's time to recognize the truth.
Rocky Marciano. 50-0. Greatest of All Time.
These are all ancient heavyweights by modern standards. By modern standards, they are sub-heavyweights (cruiserweights / light heavyweights). Rocky Marciano would be too small by today's standards to be even considered a real heavyweight.
The Klitschko brothers would destroy him. Wladimir Klitschko is the heavyweight GOAT and this is an indisputable fact!

Perhaps, because Marciano rarely ever fought opponents as heavy and as tough as Ross Purrity.
However, I can assure you that the likes of Samuel Peter, Eddie Chambers, Chris Byrd and Ruslan Chagaev will all be favored to destroy or outclass Rocky Marciano. All of whom Wlad had beaten convincingly.
Wlad has the following distinctive / unique feats matched by nobody at modern heavyweight (when two boxers weigh 200 pounds):
1) the highest knockout percentage in the heavyweight division's history in world championship fights.
2) the highest knockout quantity against previously unbeaten / never knocked out opponents.
3) The highest quantity of wins + knockouts against most styles of opponents (southpaws, counter punchers, pressure fighters and etc.).
4) Average knockout victims, heavier than any other past heavyweight in history.
5) More OVERALL wins + knockouts than any other past heavyweight in history.
6) Lost fewer rounds than any other past heavyweight in history (excluding his brother Vitali Klitschko).
7) Has arguably, the best win / loss ratio in his career record, out of the number of fights he has had.
8) Excluding Mike Tyson, knocked out / defeated more heavier than self opponents than any other past heavyweight.
So if that makes him a 'trash', then that's a remarkable thing!

Cant believe I disrespected the legacy of Rocky Marciano by not knowing he had gone undefeated in other professional fights under assumed names and it as the bare minimum 54-0 as well as being undefeated as an amateur since all his amateur fights are now voided.
TODAY IS THE GREATEST DAY IN BOXING HISTORY!!!

Out of 69 bouts, with the accomplishments that Wlad has. Those few losses in his record mean very little to nothing.
Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko are evenly matched. The winner of that bout is going to be decided by who's corner Emmanuel Steward stays in as far as I'm concerned. However, accomplishment wise, Wlad is the greater heavyweight champion between the two.
