That's the problem. Whyte doesn't need "could be next" or "maybe next", he needs guarantee to wilder next.

Fighting Ortiz is not his problem as he know and believes he can defeat Ortiz but wilder took to his hills.

    He wants the Ortiz slayer.

Not true Wilders first mandatory hasn't even been called yet. So Whyte has to wait for that plus 2 years. Also he just fought Parker who most thought would beat Whyte easy and almost did beat him so how is that not risky? What more could they do than offer Wilder a career high payday of 8 mil to make it sooner?

Why do you hate matchroom fighters and not Wilder or Ortiz for not taking risky fights, who have they fought that you'd consider risky excluding eachother? It's like you forget Wilder has had 40 fights and 1 name.

      • Fluffed his opportunity if we are honest. When he signed with Hearn, he was put in with two fighters (English level, and out of shape, Dave Allen, and several times stopped Malik Scott) and he looked boring and uninspired in both.

Fair play to Wilder for taking Ortiz on when many wouldnt, but his situation was very different to AJ's is right now. Wilder needed a top fighter on his record at that point, desperately. Stiverne while well rated at the time of the first fight had done nothing since their fight, and it led to a bit of revisionism as to whether he was ever much good in the first place (imo, no). Wilder was unfortunate with Povetkin and Ortiz fights falling through, through no fault of his own, but didnt change the fact that he needed a top opponent to validate his career at that point. He couldnt afford to fight another pudding.

Joshua on the other hand got that validation through Klitschko, and fought a few other top 10/5 opponents as well. He doesnt need Ortiz like Wilder needed him.

It would be a good fight for what its worth, but I wouldnt like it to made in place of a fight with the Wilder vs Fury winner. Which is all anyone should be focussing on for April 13th. Anything else is just a distraction.
