I think that was a significant part of Joshua's failure. He worked hard to stay at range for a hard charging Povetkin but he didn't bother to keep his distance with Ruiz...In fact every time Joshua got caught with big shots was because he elected to trade on the inside...A fighter should never do that with a guy who has faster hands and throws combos.

Like he said it’s more to absorbing shots than just standing there. Parker moves with the punches, caught them at the end of their efficiency, and weaves throughout. Joshua missed punches (or landed with minimal impact) and did not get out of dodge quickly. His chin was a target that didn’t move fluidly enough to absorb shots

Mmmmm... naw I think people still view Andy as a flawed hw who had a good night. Joshua went from being the unified heavyweight king to a quitter to replacement level competition. He had more acclaim and more to lose which he did

Scoring is obviously subjective, so I don't mind anyone saying I'm flat-out wrong but rightly or wrongly as the champion and the A-side those rounds where Joshua kept the distance and landed the jab were always going to be scored to him, and likely will be in a rematch.

To illustrate the point:

First judge scored 1, 2 and 4 for AJ
Second judge scored 1, 2 and 5 for AJ
Third judge scored 1, 2, 4 & 5 for AJ

In my estimation, AJ has to make the whole fight (or at least 7-8 rounds) look like those rounds to regain his titles. I'm sceptical as to whether he can.

That sums it up for me too, he was over-confident and stepped in every time he landed a power-shot then fell victim to Ruiz's speed and precision in the exchanges. AJ can't afford to do that.

A great fight really, 2 fastest pairs of hands in the business.
I think if they fight again it will be a fight of the year contender. I actually think Ruiz will take Joshua out even earlier in the rematch, and I wouldn't be that surprised if it's inside 2 rounds. I think as soon as the fight starts opening up, which could be as late as Round 5/6 depending on Joshua's tactics and how patient Andy is willing to be, but as soon as it does, Joshua is hitting the floor. I can't see it any other way.

I thought Round 1 was a 10-10 as nothing happened. Round 2 was a narrow Ruiz round, there was 1 more round that could have went either way. I have watched the fight 3-4 times and could give Joshua between 0 and 2 rounds. He was outboxed, let's get real here.

styles make fights. joe parker has a legit chin and he was athletic enough to work and win a decision in auckland.

keep in mind that this was a MAJORITY DECISION IN AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND!

ruiz has better skills and he should beat parker in a rematch if he's motivated and the cards are fair. keep in mind that ruiz in 2016 was actually 10 lbs heavier than he was in 2015. hopefully now he's got a fire lit under his ass and he's not going to the taco truck 3-4 nights a week.

Parker's had much better experience, and improved a lot more than Ruiz has

He thought his job was to KO Ruiz like Wilder KO'd Breazeale. He forgot boxing is a sport and you can't just KO everyone you want. He should have just done his thing - and forget about what Wilder does
