Could always pick up some Chrysler with a lot of miles on it. The check engine light will always be on, but the car will never die. I'd go for any early 2000's or late 90's Dodge Stratus or Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde, etc. Those are IMO the greatest "starter cars" to ever exist.
