  • James Ali Bashir on split with Usyk: Egis Klimas pushed me out

K2 reached out to Bashir when Usyk turned pro and told him Usyk picked him to be his trainer

Klimas came in after Usyk won the title

Once Klimas was hired Bashir felt things change immediately. The communication and access to Usyk was cut off.

Klimas kept him off the stage for the weigh in the last Usyk fight

Klimas set up for Usyk to start training camp early with Lomachenko's father before Bashir got to camp. While Usyk was sparring, Lomachenko's father was interrupting and talking over Bashir

Bashir wasn't allowed to wrap Usyk's hands the last fight and after the fight Usyk had to ice his hands down

Usyk is a good person and the Ukranian people embraced him [Bashir] The Klitschko's are class acts. Usyk asked Bashir to be his father

Bashir flew to Ukraine to speak with Usyk face to face to discuss the changes going on. Usyk never met with him

Bashir never liked the Mchunu fight. He knew Mchunu was a very smart fighter who was hard to look good against. Shouldn't have been his HBO debut fight. Felt they picked that opponent so Usyk wouldn't look good and they'd have a reason to fire Bashir. Found out from the interviewer that Usyk was fighting Mchunu next.

Klimas said when a guy has 300 amateur fights a trainer can't really teach a fighter much

If what Bashir is saying is correct then that's pretty ****ed up, why can't people just tell guys straight to there face whether or not they want to be replaced instead of making it a circus act.

Hmmmm First Sergey & his trainer. Now Usyk & his trainer. Notice a pattern with Klimas and his fighters

That's not cool. I personally think going back to Lomachenko Sr will be good for Usyk, but Bashir deserves more respect than that

There's no pattern here, Kovalev and JDJ never liked each other since day one, and Papachenko was always a father figure to Usyk and trained him for Olympics, that move was expected. Bashir was temporary from the start

Who says you have to like your trainer? The results are what matter. Boone said Sergey was much improved the second time around under JDJ.

The pro game is much different than the amateurs. When Lomachenko got in there vs a seasoned pro he lost. When Usyk got in there vs a seasoned pro he won. There are plenty of stand out amateurs who couldn't adjust to the pro game. And plenty of pros who were successful with little or no amateur experience.

In every other sport the amateur game is played the same as the pro game. Amateur boxing is a whole different sport than the pro game.

Specifically reaching out to someone to be your trainer and working with them for three years and and winning a title with them is temporary?

Kovalev said JDJ was just holding mitts for him, that's his words, not mine. You can believe him or not, but when a fighter says something like that about his trainer it's obvious they'll part their ways soon. And we know that Kovalev isn't the most nicest and respectful person over here, he talks **** about Abel Sanchez too. Even if you feel that your trainer is not giving you enough and just holding the mitts for you, that **** just need to stay in the gym, but that's another topic to talk about

I'm not talking about pro game and amateur game. My point is if Usyk feels more comfortable working with Loma's father, from psychological point of view, and they have a better connection you can't really blame him for that. There's no reason to bring up that loss to Salido because it wasn't Loma Sr's fault, it was fault of Klimas who allowed his boxer to get in the ring with a fighter who couldn't even make the weight, and Lomachenko's overconfidence and ambitions because he demanded to get the title shoot as soon as possible, that was a part of his contract.

Let's just see the results of it, before talking.

He hired Bashir only because Papachenko was busy with training Loma in States, while Usyk was spending most of his training time in Europe. Now since he's on American soil, it's logical to see him doing that. Usyk is no Kovalev, he won't be talking **** about his former trainer, he's not that type of person, too respectful

He isn't blaming Usyk, he's blaming Klimas. He praised Usyk, the Ukrainian people & especially the Klitschko's. Did you listen to the interview? Usyk sees how Klimas has handled the career of Loma & Kovalev so he's listening to whatever Klimas says. There is a way to handle things and the way Klimas handled it wasn't right. When Klimas called Lomachenko's father he should've told him to let Bashir know he's being let go instead of training his fighter behind his back and trying to take over camp.
