Opposition to this is concerned about paying taxes. There are casinos and businesses that have a lot of control. But life on the street has gotten rough affecting the tourist trade. Puerto Rico could very well become a rich tourist destination like Hawaii. It would make the quality of life much better for the families. That's my opinion as someone that once lived there.
How you come to that conclusion? The parties in PR at the moment are not really equivalent to mainland political parties calling em Dixiecrats is just really random. The current governing party and governor of PR are pro-statehood.
You do understand what a dixiecrat is correct?
Puerto Rico has been trying for statehood for awhile about 4+years( 120 if you know the history) and who has been blocking it? Repubs, Ricans aren't Cubans they are too the left and it would hurt them. Plus Rico is in debt because the US won't let them go bankrupt but won't bail them out.
And yes I know what a Dixiecrat is but since the southern strategy they aren't in big numbers anymore.
Trump is gonna make it happen. Or the voters will and trump will welcome them with open arms
Why would any Trump supporter support Puerto Rico becoming the 51st State? The island is an economic basket case which would be a huge drain on the rest of the country and if they they were part of the United States they would send two more dem senators, five dem house members and seven dem electoral votes for president every election.
The ideal thing would be to have them become their own country.

This is craziness! We need to use the federal taxes from PR becoming a state to build a bridge from the island to Miami B-)
