Now had he been strapped like the 2nd amendment permits it.... he would have had a chance to shoot that shooter and save his wife & daughter's lives.

Good news, the city is offering a $40,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Hopefully someone comes forward. I have a feeling the people involved weren't even from Long Beach.

Officials to offer $40,000 reward for information on shooting deaths of Long Beach mother and daughter

Long Beach officials and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are set to offer a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot and killed a mother and her 4-year-old daughter in a city intersection Saturday.

Carina Mancera, 26, and her daughter, Jennabel, were gunned down at the corner of Locust Avenue and 9th Street around 10:20 p.m. on Aug. 6, police have said.

The victims were returning from a local grocery store, and the attacker also shot at Mancera’s boyfriend, Luis Anaya, police said. A motive for the attack has not been disclosed, and investigators have not said if Mancera and her daughter were the targets of the shooting or killed in a random crime.

Police Chief Robert Luna said Friday that the grieving father has told police as much as he can, but cautioned that he may not remember much given the traumatic nature of the attack.

“If I can put you in his situation for a minute of being shot at, and watching his girlfriend and daughter being murdered … I don’t know how many of us would remember many details after that,” Luna said.

Long Beach’s City Council will vote on a proposal to offer a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the killings at its August 16 meeting, and the county board of supervisors is set to vote on proposal offering a reward in the same amount, bringing the total to $40,000.

Anaya and Mancera had been dating for nearly five years, and lived in an apartment less than a block from the intersection where the shooting occurred, friends said. Both grew up in Long Beach, and Anaya worked in construction.

Residents said the neighborhood is relatively calm, and the sound of gunshots came as a surprise to people in the area on Saturday.

“How are you gonna see a family walking and go crazy?” Gabriel Sanchez, 26, a longtime friend of Mancera, asked earlier this week. “Why would you shoot a child? The child is just living life, innocent.”

Earlier this week, Long Beach homicide Sgt. Robert Woods said he was surprised that the department had not received more information from the community in the wake of the vicious killings, and Luna again pleaded for someone to step forward on Friday. Police are asking anyone with information about the killings to contact Dets. Scott Lasch and Michael Hubbard at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips can alo be submitted through L.A. Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS.

I doubt it would have done anything. Supposedly he creeped up on them and let off two rounds with a shotgun. The mother died instantly, the little girl was in and out of consciousness but died at the hospital.

So it looks like they finally have a person of interest. Looks like I was correct. A black gang member was likely the suspect.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Police have released surveillance video of a person of interest in the shooting murders of a mother and 4-year-old daughter in Long Beach.

Carina Mancera and her 4-year-old daughter Jennabel Anaya were walking home in August with Jennabel's father Luis, when a gunman approached them at 9th and Locust and opened fire.

The bullets missed Luis, but hit Carina and Jennabel.

For the past six weeks, Long Beach detectives have looked through hours of security video.

They released video of a man that they want to talk to in connection with the case.

Police say the man left the convenience store and boarded the Blue Line at 5th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, just five blocks from the crime scene. He then rode the train to Los Angeles and exited at the San Pedro station.

He was carrying a suitcase. Passengers on the Blue Line that night told police the man talked about leaving California. Detectives hope someone can put a name with the face and knows where to find him. Right now he's considered a person of interest in the case.

Why Carina and her daughter were targeted is still a mystery.

"That's what's baffling all of us - we don't have any idea why this occurred or what the motive may have been in this case," said Lt. Lloyd Cox, with the Long Beach Police Department.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Long Beach detectives.

A $40,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman.

There were rumors floating around that a Crip gang member was responsible. The Blacks and Mexican racial tension has been pretty high in LBC, especially when enhanced by gang affiliations. The "person of interest" in that video is clearly black, so most likely.

There was also a 19 year old Mex-American Marine that was shot and killed in South LA last night. Pretty big story here. They just took him off life support. I have a feeling the shooter was black as well.

This is sad man, what goes on in peoples heads to want to kill another person over something so petty, to take a life is sickening. Why are people in the hood devoid of any human emotion or compassion how did it become this way? why is it that they glorify pimping, killers, rapists, thugs, dealers etc?

its like bad is good and good is bad.
