That's an easy one. Canelo's heading to ESPN. Oscar has a contract with the network. Moreover, most of his talent roster fights on a single network; For the exception of Canelo because he is a PPV fighter.

lol im sure ESPN isnt hurting for budget money haha. And its not like Canelo Alverez is such a huge crossover star that its out of the question that he gets some kinda deal through them. Geesh its crazy at how many accountants there are on here ha

And it's just just this one time either HBO has been openly rooting against him throwing shade at him tipping their fingers on the scale to shape narrative pro GGG as the hero and vilify Canelo. I see shades of what went down with Floyd until he said enough of this shyt and bounced. HBO stuck their nose in the middle of the negotiations between Floyd and Manny and took sides. Painted Manny the hero and dragged Floyd through the mud and then finally let it bleed into the fights. The way they would call Floyd's fight became unbearable. You got Canelo the biggest star waking up reading Lampley remarks after a long standing bias against him at that network. Just look at how the coverage of Floyd changed the moment he bolted HBO to Showtime and how happy and free he seemed. HBO built Manny as the white knight and wanted him to slay Floyd and years later the same happened with them building GGG up for years as a killer and everything right in boxing their hero and painted Canelo the villain. And when they didn't get their fairy tale ending of the white knight knocking out and destroying making Canelo the villain pay they did what they did to Floyd smear him. Couldn't beat him in the ring so try and beat him outside the ring with how you cover him.

Canelo is a free agent now and he holds grudges too just look at what went down with the WBC. He doesn't need HBO every network will throw whatever money he wants at him. I see him bolting just like floyd did and seeing how free and happier Floyd became after he left HBO.
Business wise those are all terrible steps going against their biggest PPV stars at both times. But we as fans could somehow take it positively, it simply means HBO are still sticking to what they believe, rather than just kissing the ass of the guy who gives them plenty of milk. It means they still have at least a voice over money no matter how shtty we think they are.
Canelo arguably lost the first fight, pop for illegal substances twice how are they supposed to paint that?
I had no problem with Canelo winning but HBO is taking a stand with GGG, and that’s their choice even if it could result in a bad business relationship.
Same with Floyd, and manny they handled them both for years. They know them more than we do in how they do business.
They tried to produce the fight many times and failed, and then they sticked their guns to Manny not being the one stalling, a slightly lesser attraction than Floyd at that time.
So they are either terrible business men, or they stick to what they believe is true regardless of losing their biggest stars.

That contract is expiring. That contract was signed before ESPN made an exclusive deal with Top Rank. That contract was only for ESPN2. That contract didn't involve Golden Boy getting paid for their shows.

Anything but Showtime, last thing Canelo needs is to be on a bush league, ghetto fab needs to drink a 40 before fighting network. Especially with that scumbag Stephen Espinosa and his rat face running things.

$250k, to pay Oscar while also putting on a decent tripleheader.

How you make those numbers work is beyond me

Free agent, Canelo can go where he wants!

Thanks to that emotional wreck Jim Lampley, HBO can say goodbye to their Canelo investment!

He’s the biggest free agent in boxing, expect a huge bidding war from everyone!
