Schemes in the UK are for most businesses, in fact many over Europe manage to give to big business and small businesses a little more as they need it.

What's the harm in that? What giving to small businesses aswell as big businesses, is now communism or lefty?

Jeez. What nonsense.

The reality is Americans are going to lose jobs. I just don’t think all the people that lose should be poor workers. The rich executives at some of these companies should take the hit as well.

Would be interesting if the money all went directly to people who need it to let them spend it in the way to meet needs and give none to the corporations.

That way people have money to spend even if the corporations collapse.

If we took all of the money and just gave it to the people for four months and allowed many of these corporations to fail or absorb loses and fire millions to stay alive, then what do you think would happen once the money that we gave people for 4 months dried up, and now they have to go back into the workforce and look for work that is no longer there? I am not in favor of eliminating jobs that sustain workers for a lifetime in a corporation at the expense of that same worker being paid more for only 4 months but lose his job forever.

If you are talking about a corporation needing to fail in order to punish a handful of executives the expense of thousands upon thousands of employees then I do not agree. These corporations are getting their bail outs with provisions specifically to keep their labor force employees and to limit stock buy backs. This is much different than 2008.

Not to mention the unemployment benefits are already pretty hefty in this bill. I get a stimulus of $2400 between my wife and I, and my unemployment would be $1200 a week for 4 months, that's not even including my wives unemployment.

That is what you took from what he said? Really?

He is talking about people in his wife's situation. Here let me say it in a way that you can be sure I am not in it for my loneself: I am here in the Bay Area away from the family, The hotel I stay in laid off many of the staff... The few remaining staff are making nothing much... I am concerned about them and the capacity for the hotel to hire them back ASAP. They have families to feed.

I am also concerned for people who have better positions. People who have benefits and who have worked to get into a good job position. They are a concern for me...people like Loneman's wife. My wife does not work, and I do not work a job per se... I still have concern for those individuals. Does not mean I do not have concern for others... I also am deeply concerned for my brother ln law who is a doctor in NYC. He has to live away from his family...can see them from the street and wave, cannot go near them...

Its a mess for everyone.

There's more to this than you think.
If the company your wife works for relies on the government to pay its employees then that company needs to be nationalized. This is the government paying a company to have one guy dig a hole and another guy fill it.

I swear I cannot believe how many illiterate communists we have on this board. Everyone is an economic genius, except you are talking on matters you don't know about because the highest level job you're qualified for is a shoe salesman.
Communism is the government paying corporations to employ people.

Why is socialism always the cure when capitalism fails?

What did these companies do with all that money from their tax breaks? Why didn't they save for a rainy day?

What's the better idea?

The government paying a widget company to have their workers make widgets nobody is buying or the government giving people the money to go out and buy widgets?

Why not give the money to businesses if they postpone charging people? People don't need a 7k monthly wage if their 6k bills (utilities, mortgage) are postponed.
