WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman showed the belt off at the final prefight news conference Wednesday at the MGM Grand and ran down its particulars. It is made of 1.5 kilograms (about 3.3 pounds) of gold, 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 160 emeralds and Italian crocodile leather. It reads "Money Belt" across the top and took three weeks to produce at a cost of more than $1 million.

Although the WBC is not charging a sanctioning fee for the belt, Mayweather Promotions agreed to pay the costs, Sulaiman said.

"The cost of the materials, the labor to make it, it is an expensive belt, and the winner of this big-money fight will deserve to have the Money Belt," Sulaiman said.
Says they don't charge sanctioning fees. Mayweather paid because of all the diamonds and crap on it that i didn't know about.

        Commemorative belts are gifts.

We've been reading false news on social media saying the @wbcboxing is making Canelo and JCCHAVEZjr pay a sanctioning fee for the #CaneloChavezJr fight May 6th. #FAKENEWS
WBC President @wbcmoro is gifting this prestigious Huichol belt in honor of Don Adolfo López Mateos on México's two most important holidays 5 de mayo and 15 de septiembre. Starting with the first belt gifting to the winner of #CaneloChavezJr on May 6th.
This belt is being worked on buy Huicholes, Luis De La Cruz Lopez. 10 hours a day, every day to form a commemorative piece of art as a GIFT to the winner, with no sanctioning fees, just a gift in honor of México, it's art, it's roots, it's fighters.
We have spoken to President @wbcmoro and he has confirmed this is true. If anyone has any questions or would like to interview WBC, contact Laoffice@wbcboxing.com for more information.

                the money belt

i used to joke about the WBC "big boy" belt

                and the WBA "platinum belt."

this is essentially a realized version of the bad joke / caricature belt i created to mock them

and yes, casual fans don't know any better and have no idea what the WBC is. they see a belt and think that's the champion. they see "world title" fights being promoted at a casino and are more likely to pay for a ticket, book a hotel room, and lose money at the tables and sportsbook.

this isn't news. what is news is just how far down the rabbit hole these slime buckets are willing to go.

the money belt . the f#cking money belt, guys!!!

If you heard that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor were fighting for the WBC “Money Belt” a month ago, you probably would have thought it was a joke. However, on Tuesday during the last press conference held for the mega-million dollar boxing match, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman showcased the diamond and jewel encrusted belt to be given to the winner on Saturday night.

“The perfect title for this is a ‘money belt,’” Sulaiman told MMA Fighting. “We’re just proud to have a little bit of history for this event.”

Sulaiman said the alligator leather strapped belt features 1.5 kilograms of solid 24-karat gold, 600 sapphires, 300 emeralds, and 3,360 diamonds. Sulaiman did not give the exact amount the belt is worth. However, the belt for the 2015 bout between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao was worth more than $1 million. That belt featured 3,1017 emeralds and just 0.8 kilograms of gold, which pale in comparison to what “The Money Belt” is flaunting.

“It cost a fortune,” Sulaiman said. “It cost many, many, many hours of work of many artisans. It is just a beautiful piece of work.

                  “It’s a lot of money. I don’t really have a figure. It’s a priceless piece for a historic event.”

Sulaiman added that Mayweather and the WBC have had a great relationship with Floyd’s 19-year championship status with the organization. The WBC President added that he believes this fight merits a “special reward” for the man who gets his hand raised.

“This is a fight that falls out of the box,” Sulaiman said. “It’s what life is about, to break paradigms, to bring change and important new things. This Saturday the 26th, millions and millions of people who follow MMA and millions and millions of people who just want to watch a world-renowned event are going to be watching boxing. And that in itself is a great accomplishment for the sport.

“So whoever has negative comments about the event, of course they have the right to express their opinion and have their own opinion. But I feel it is a great event for boxing, because it will showcase and show millions of people the great art of self-defense, the great art of boxing, which has been developed throughout the years.”

Will Floyd Mayweather end up being the double money belt champ already having the one from his fight with Manny Pacquiao? Or will Conor McGregor add this prized trophy to his collection? Let’s discuss this in the comment section.

They put out that they were "gifting" it because Canelo went ape shyt and refused to allow the belt be used in his fight and wouldn't pay for it. What else were they supposed to say at that point? Not sure why you are arguing this point I gave you the link Mayweather paid for this. WBC playing with semantics saying it wasn't a sanction fee but Mayweather Promotions paid for the belt. WBC don't make these things for free they expect to be paid.

You posted a link saying Mayweather paid for a belt worth millions. The WBC isn't making a dime from the fight.

I posted a link showing they weren't going to make a dime from the Mexican belt and were giving it for free.

WBC doesn't make money from these fights. They charged Mayweather because the belt has all that gold and diamonds. The belts are for brand promotion they don't make money off commemorative belts. As i said and are usually free.
