Default What ounce of gloves to use for sparring centering around your weight bracket?

I weigh 160lbs and spar with the boys at the gym mostly using 16 oz gloves.

But I feel I could be using something like 14 oz or less since I'm in the lighter weight brackets, my coach begs to differ.

I understand and know sparring is practice and you're not in there to hurt your sparring buddy, so health and safety for using heavy padding gloves is understandable.

But I feel the gloves are a bit too heavy for me

and I think using 14oz gloves would make it feel lighter

Some thoughts from those who are experienced would be appreciated man.

Yes it's for safety, both hands and head. Even at lower weights most people use 16's. I wouldn't use anything less at your weight class

Maybe I am out of date but when I was young we all used oversized gloves. The HWs used 32s.
