Cotto remains lineal champ even though he doesn't hold any of the sanctioning body's belts.

If Canelo wins, he becomes lineal.

Otherwise Cotto remains lineal until he retires/moves down to 154/becomes inactive at 160.

I'm familiar with how it works. Just assumed Cotto will vacate 160 to avoid ggg, should he beat Canelo.. and Canelo will hold the lineal title hostage at catchweights...should he bear Cotto.

It doesn't look good for the middleweight lineal title.

You mad because Cotto know that he's too small for GGG? He is vacating the belt the smart way, that is what you guys wanted right?

In my State is called the coward way....Cottex did the same thing at 147, 154 & 160 there is no honor in having to wait for the main guy to move (Paul Williams) or make sure your opponents are not 100% (Matinez and the disabled rabbi) a decent boxer came along and whoop his arss.

All you need to know:

So basically he told the WBC that he will duck GGG, good move by the WBC then.

Because they want a sanctioning fee. This is essentially Canelo fighting for a vacant title. It makes no sense.

Why should the title not be at stake for him? Because Cotto wants to be a diva and not do what literally every champion in the sport does, (pay sanctioning fees) the belt should just be given to GGG? When the contract was signed it was for the WBC championship. Either way if Canelo wins he becomes lineal champ, with or without the title.

He was willing to go down to 154 for Floyd because it would be a big payday.

I don't see why he won't go down to 155 for Canelo who would be the biggest payday in the sport for him right now.
