Yeah because theres nowhere else for them to go. A lot of fighters make excuses about weight and move up or down after big losses to 'reinvent' themselves whereas heavyweights are pretty much stuck there.

No, I think it's about the same.

Lots of casual fans at HW, plus when they lose they tend to be splattered on the canvas, which always leaves a lasting impact on the public.

I was going to say no, but you do have a point with this. Some could look at it in this way.

The true "public" doesn't care about a loss.

It's fanboys on here (the minority), and only young fanboys who have been exposed to Floyds way of marketing himself and not much else, who exaggerate the importance. Before Floyd no one made a big deal out of it, and most people within the sport understand that with record comes context, and only under a certain context is it truly impressive or worth mention.

This is the fight game, most, if not all fighters lose, and someone always has your number out there. That's the nature of humanity and combat sports. You may never meet that person, but they are out there.

The more time passes, the less of factor it becomes, as the ball hugging fanboys realize retiring undefeated is an exception, an outlier, and not some standard to hold people to.

You are right...there is limited opposition so a loss can push them to the back of the line pretty quickly. As you say...fighters in lower weight divisions can lose their belts and if they are considered money...can go straight to number one contender and a title fight in the next weight class.

                That, nothing to add.

Shyt, man. These days, any fighter in any weight class is an instant bum when he takes an L. It's a ridiculous culture and it keeps the best from fighting the best. These guys are terrified to lose or at least their promoters are.
