Great post. Sakuraba has a terrible case of cauliflower ear. I think in the fight your thinking the ear 'popped' which is why he needed surgery. I read he needs to get them drained regularly.

Fear of getting cauliflower ear is actually one of the reasons I quit competitive wrestling. That's just nothing I want in my life.

Yeah sounds painful. I saw a documentary about the pro wrestling business called Legends Never Die where Bruno Sammartino said cauliflower ear was the worst pain he ever experienced, worse than any injury in the ring. until ir hardened and numbed. I guess they can drain it once or twice or if it's caught early enough, not sure. I thought head gear that goes over the ears is supposed to protect against that. Surprised there isn't a way to cut out that excess skin and reshape the ear to its normal shape or drain the excess fluid ever time or at least numb it until it hardens.
