Let me start off by saying that they ruled a pair of red Everlast MX retail gloves OK for the fight. Team Mayweather threatened to pull out of the fight if he didn't switch. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has always had a solution to situations like this.
Barrera-Hamed: The argument was going no where and the commission stepped in and had them both wear the same standard red cleto reyes gloves that they pulled out of their basement closet (figuratively).
Mayweather-Maidana: While what was being argued over may have been different, it is the same principle for Barrera-Hamed. Mayweather's gloves were approved unanimously and the Red MX gloves were approved by the commission. Mayweather is the fighter, not the commissioner, but apparently he has the commission in a vice-grip by the balls. All the commission needed to do was flex their muscles in this situation and the fight would have still happened and both fighters would have been able to wear the gloves that they want. The commission should have stated, "look Floyd, when you fought Oscar, it was stipulated in the contract that you had to wear 10 oz Cleto Reyes gloves as well as Oscar. In your contract with Maidana it states that both fighters can wear whatever gloves that they want so long as the commission approves them. We didn't approve the custom MX gloves but we approved the retail MX gloves. Now you have 2 options, follow through with the fight like you always have when both Guerrero and Cotto got to wear gloves with more horse hair, or forfeit the fight and your $32million purse." The commission stood back and did nothing. They suck and are now weak.
