  • Why didnt Tyson Vs. Bowe happen?

What was the timeline/story for this fight? I assume it was talked about

One of the few big 90's HW matchups that never happened.

During Tyson's post prison career Don King was concerned with guiding Tyson to a title. His plans did not include bouts with Lennox Lewis, Holyfield and Bowe who were a danger to his plans.

Tyson was out of prison in 95 by the time he was in any shape to fight a top guy bowe was beat up by Golota...had nothing to do with Tyson avoiding Bowe who was friends with anyway so that match is highly unlikely to unfold unless Bowe was the top guy ,he wasn't Holyfield / Lewis were. after 1996 Bowe didn't fight again until 2004...there is no time span to where Tyson would have fought Bowe with the golta fights involved anyway.Holyfield and Lewis were most certainly in his plans he fought Holyfield in 96/and 97. How much time does one need after being released in 1995? The only one to truly duck Tyson was Lewis, who had opportunities for 3 years after his release. Only up until Tyson fought botha did lewis truly go after the fight.

This is the only factual response so far.

Tyson had two comeback fights in 95 and fought Bruno for the WBC title in the beginning of 96'. At that time Bowe was coming off a victory over Holyfield and did not fight Golota until later in July. As I said, at the time King was guiding Tyson to a title, Lennox Lewis, Holyfield and Bowe were the top heavyweights and not part of his plans.

As stated Tyson was not going to jump in a fight with any top ranked guy like that...to assume Tyson should fight Lewis with less than a year out of prison would be foolish. Bowe fought golota in 96 as stated the rest is history, tyson simply wanted the belt and needed some warm up fights which he got with Seldon, then Lewis booked after what he saw Tyson do to him,so came Holyfield.

Whaere does Tyson exactly fight bowe if Bowe fought Holyfield in 95 and Golota in 96?Doesnt make sense to say Tyson avoided Bowe its FALSE,joseph agrees with you...though theres that ...

This is not the section on this forum to tell lies about history.

The handlers of Mike Tyson couldn't win in court, so they paid Lennox Lewis, who agreed Thursday to step aside and let Tyson fight World Boxing Assn. champion Bruce Seldon on July 13 in Las Vegas.

The New Jersey Supreme Court had blocked Tyson's bid to fight Seldon after Lewis had gone to court, claiming that he should be fighting for Tyson's World Boxing Council title, rather than Seldon. Attempts by Tyson and promoter Don King to overturn that decision failed, and that crown will not be at stake when Tyson fights Seldon.

                  Wrong on all accounts...literally....

Tyson wanted to fight Seldon because Lewis was fighting someone else and ordered Tyson couldn't fight anyone but Lewis...then king paid lewis 4 mill or so to wait for the Seldon outcome...which he agreed ....after the Seldon fight he would get another 14 mil or so....he ran its that simple....Lewis didn't want the fight and actually asked for more than what was agreed on. Holyfield was the fight to make then as Lewis balked and Tyson made more money with holyfield .

the link you provided right here said this.....

Though terms of the agreement were not announced, Lewis reportedly will be paid an amount in seven figures and is guaranteed a fight with Tyson by Sept. 1 for the WBC title, provided Lewis wins a tune-up bout.

Clearly stating a fight is in the works if EACH win against there opponents. you did nothing but contradict yourself.

No it's not wrong. It's documented factual history. Everyone here can read the link and interpret for themselves so trying to spin it into something it's not is pointless. You also claimed that Lewis didn't attempt to fight Tyson until after the Botha fight which is clearly a lie.

But keep telling your lies. I doubt anybody here takes you seriously anyway.
