If Mayweather goes this year with only fighting Cotto, then he's not winning it.

Chavez Jr will get destroyed by Martinez.

Kev we agree on alot of things usually. Your wrong on this one. Chavez with no testing cant be hurt. Martinez Cashed himself out on this one. Aint no stopping El Dinero de Vaca.

I'm sure I'll get hated on for saying this but Jon Jones deserved it more. He beat Jackson, Machida and Evans in the last year.

It wasn't for Fighter of the Year guys, so throwing Ward out doesn't work just because he didn't fight this year.

          It was for "Best fighter"

True, but ONE, Its for best fighter...Those MMA fighters only win cuz its only a few big name Boxers competing..Second of all, Floyd gave us that great war with Cotto, and Floyd was fast as hell and sharp as hell in that fight...You can choose between Jon Jones who will win easily next yr, or the yr after...Or Floyd, the biggest star in professional pugilism, who is also an ATG, who always gets hated, and deserves to be uplifted every once in a while...guys hate mayweather, but every now and then they realize the guy is a hell of a fighter, and he deserves it

Well that must make Cotto feel good being that hes the only person Mayweather had to fight to win.

Well one, an MMA fighter has never won it. It changed from Best Boxer to Best Fighter in like 07 or something and Mayweather or Pacquiao have won every time. Two you could take the most boring round from his war with Cotto and it's still 10x more exciting than all of Jones wins combined. Sure people hate on Mayweather now but the fact of the matter is he'll be the measuring stick for years to come. You don't have to like the person to love the fighter.

Great comment..Seems to me like Silva or Jones, or Rampage would have won at least 3 or 4 times by now..But on another note, people find ways to discredit Floyd as a fighter AND As a person...They say he ducks guys, and cherrypicks, so thats what I means by that comment!

2012 ESPY Results: Silva & Jones Lose "Fighter of the Year" to Mayweather

Anderson Silva and Jon Jones are considered by many to be two of the best mixed martial artists competing in the UFC. They both represent the traditional martial arts ethos of respect and hard work. And they both have been extremely dominant in their respective runs in the promotion.

Jones has put together a string of wins that puts him in the argument of all-time greats during his championship run. A TKO win over Mauricio Rua, submission wins over Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida, and the unanimous decision win over Rashad Evans is arguably one of the best runs at light heavyweight ever.

Anderson Silva is the best fighter in the world. It's impossible to argue as he's been able to defend the UFC middleweight title an unheard-of 10 consecutive times. He's been fighting twice a year for the majority of his run which has likely helped extend his career. He just defeated his long time rival Chael Sonnen in one of the best performances of his career.

Unfortunately, neither fighter was able to walk away with an ESPY award tonight. The award went to undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather. In the past calendar year, Mayweather was able to extend his record to 43-0 with victories over Victor Ortiz and Miguel Cotto.

Maybe next year will be the year that an MMA fighter will walk away with the "Fighter of the Year" award at the ESPYs.
