  • Manny Pacquiao won titles in 5 weight classes over the span of 2 years and 8 months

I was looking back at this and it was pretty remarkable.

In March 2008, he defeated JMM by SD to win the WBC and lineal titles at 130 lbs.

In June 2008, he stopped David Diaz to win the WBC title at 135 lbs.

After jumping to 147 lbs. to make DLH quit on his stool in a non-title fight, he moved down one weight class in May 2009 to knock out Ricky Hatton to win the lineal title at 140 lbs.

In November 2009, he stopped Miguel Cotto to win the WBO title at 147 lbs (catchweight: 145 lbs).

After a title defense at 147 lbs. against Joshua Clottey, he moved up one weight class in November 2010 to defeat Antonio Margarito to win the WBC title at 154 lbs (catchweight: 150 lbs).

From the ages of 29-31, he won titles in 5 weight classes over the span of 7 fights (2 years and 8 months). Amazing.

Extremely impressive run even though there were some dud fights in there.

Also the Jr MW title was a joke really.

Have to agree that's insane. Imagine if he didn't jump straight from flyweight to super bantam, that's another 2 divisions he missed out on titles. Plus look at the names you just listed. Hatton, Cotto, DLH, and JMM. Not to hate on Broner or Mikey but those are real names and not paper champs.

                  Won by KO TKO also.

We all were impressed by Manny.

So impressive Floyd offered a 50/50 split.

Too bad he ducked drug testing.

                  Hasn't had a STOPPAGE since.

I don't see that as amazing at all.

The rematch against JMM he clearly lost. Jerry Roth is the best judge in Boxing history and he scored it 115-112 for JMM. Press row scored the fight for JMM and so did pundits from the Philippines. Manny lost that fight and at best won with controversy. Not impressed.

David Diaz was a nobody. Not impressed.

Hatton had been knocked out COLD for his first career loss 1.5 years prior. Even Juan Lazcano was exposing Hatton. Hatton was damaged goods. NOT impressed, NOT amazing. BTW, nobody weighed 147 vs Hoya.

You can't win a title at 147 on a catchweight, you're words are null and void. In 2008 Cotto got brutally stomped by Margarito. Getting a fighter so close after such a devastating knockout (2009) is NOT impressive!!!

Why even mention Clottey? Manny was a 8:1 favorite lmao.

Again you can't win a Jr Middleweight title legitimately at a catchweight.

What I see here is great matchmaking from Bruce Trampler. If you don't know who he is, you should because he's the brains behind Manny Pacquiao'a matchmaking.

Look at his opponents, they were at their bottom. Recent losses and many of them viscious. The only guy that wasn't on a losing streak was JMM and we saw how that played out.
