Only if Davis makes weight though!
Mares in not winning this fight.
He's too small, frail, pillow fisted.
If people say Spence vs Mikey is a mismatch,
    this is even worse.
Mares should be fighting the likes of Frampton, Donaire, Rigo, etc.
    which are still marketable fights.

****, I didn't realize 3G was favored to win. Both fights or just the first?

It looked like it weeks leading to the fight.
Loeffler and some fans here were already talking about Ryota vs GGG in Tokyo.
          That fight seems gone forever.

Harrison, Korobov, E Alvarez, etc., were put on the map
because of their performances this year.
Any upcoming fight you suspect the same thing happens?
I suspect Josesito Lopez would make Thurman think of taking a long layoff again.
But this is boxing, anything could happen.

Everybody thinks Davis is the next big thing but the truth of the matter here is that Mares is by far Davis's best opponent to date.

Mares wins this barring they both make weight.

It is because the so called "top" fighters really are not as good as they are perceived to be..The gap is not that big

Sorry buddy, I've never really been a fan of Mares even when he's in his prime.
He's got quick combo reflexes, a great counter puncher,
almost like the smaller version of JMM, but the power is just not there.
The Ponce de Leon fight showed he's on the decline,
was hit way too much and couldn't pull the trigger,
and I thought it was never there in the first place.
Like I've mentioned, I'd rather see him go after the likes of Donaire, Frampton, Magdaleno, Dogboe, etc.

                    Me too.

He literally asked Don Haymon for this fight though. Mares is all about the toughest challenges and he's been struggling to make 126.

The fact that this is Davis's toughest opponent to date makes this interesting.

A lot of underdogs won their fights in 2018.
In addition to the ones that were mentioned:

                      Hooker vs saucedo
                      Brant vs murata
                      Patera vs ritson (big underdog)
                      Mwakinyo vs eggington (big underdog)
                      Berto vs alexander
                      Allen vs webb
                      Fielding vs zeuge
Random ramirez vs zlatanican (big underdog)

                      And much more.
