Even if PBC has the bigger platform unless he's got guys with star quality he's not gonna make any stars. Guys like Thurman, Quillin, Leo, Wilder, Garcia etc..
are never gonna become stars even if they KO 10 guys in a row, they're not charismatic and unless they beat a star, they will never be good enough in the eyes of the fans.
Danny Garcia is just short of his late 20s, fights in one of boxing glamour divisions, has shown that he can fight, can promo in English or Spanish, has a lightning rod (in Angel Garcia) in his camp, and is a handsome guy already drawing sizable attention from the female fans (without targeting them in a manner that leaves the guys that they came with pissed off, a la Oscar De La Hoya).

Deontay Wilder is on the verge of having an opportunity to become the undisputed unified world heavyweight champion.

And then there's still Erroll Spence Jr (who only really needs to get more comfortable doing interviews)

You figure the monthly shows to ESPN and the monthly shows to SpikeTV, and any network looking to take on the entire PBC deal is looking at cover 30 shows a year.

20 Saturday fight cards (either in the afternoon or primetime), with the rest of the on the odd Wednesday/Friday/Sunday (with 50 weeks to work with). Yes, the whole thing can work on a single network.

The initial phase of this Haymon effort is to give everybody a taste of what things could be for their network in the future (let NBC envision taking an Olympian they featured-->watching that fighter emerge as a prospect on NBCSN-->becoming a contender on the afternoon NBC shows-->emerging as a star to be featured on primetime on NBC, show CBS the utility of expanding their boxing footprint beyond just Showtime, give Fox a taste of what it could be to become "the home of combat sports" [having the UFC and PBC under the same umbrella would put 70% of the marketable combat sports names with Fox]).

Once decision time comes, the networks will have to make their own case (especially if the numbers prove to hold strong when football season is over)
I get you he wants to test the market but I don't think he did it in a sustainable way.

He's put out an overall terrible product that I don't think would get the price he needs to cover his expenses. Really, if I asked everyone, does anyone actually think PBC will end up covering a $300 million (he'll spend a whoe lot more by the time his time buys expire in like 2-4 years as well) expense bill in the next few years?

      • i swear its like people dont even know the business model before they write. the whole idea is that they spend all this money on time buys and fights then when the time buys are over they are going to negotiate for tv deals meaning they dont expect any real return for another 2 years. until u guys understand this u will keep making pointless threads about hoping pbc will fail

Danny Garcia is a joke. He has zero fanbase now. Everyone knows Herrera whipped that ass and Lamont embarrassed him too.

The fact you have to bring up Beyonce shows you how awful the fights PBC have are.

"Don't even know da bidniz model DOUGH!"

Any business that loses 300 million in the first year is a complete unmitigated failure.

You're a funny bloke. What boxing fan complains about a short term 5 year investment that is to help out boxing?!! What rogue alias is this? A Top Rank or Golden Boy intern? HBO or ESPN intern?

All businesses start with a capital fund from a set of investors, borrowed, loan...then they are to see how it goes. Value is no different than shares rising and falling. For some quarterly term to describe its market value when PBC's value is dependent on particular fights... PBC is still brewing its market value. We don't need rogue posters on the net just generalizing PBC's current value and making false leads that it's doing poorly because of its current output.

Just wait until the PBC cards are on NBC. Haymon has shown great results for a starting platform on NBC!!! As long as you show good ratings on a new platform on NBC, it's still good to go.

Top Rank and Golden Boy have advisors and analysts of their own. If they knew PBC were doing poor they wouldn't even bother trying to throw the Ali Act at them. Truth is, great things to come from PBC.

Who complains if Apple loses half its share value from one year to the next? These things happen in markets all the time. Now go hit a bag.

              • Who was the first poster to bring up this fictional "three year plan" b.s.? Now I just read a poster change it to a five year model? PBC is awful. Those of you defending it must like to argue just for the sake of arguing.

Probably the most in depth article on PBC and it's model. Good read for our mature posters.

If his grammar, spelling and prose are anything like yours, then PBC never really had a chance.

Dude, you need to start using a speak and spell!

Anyway, I would assume that the losses were pre-determined and the plan would be to start seeing a return further down the line. However, the level of competition the respective fighters are facing are turning people off.

At the moment it's just a Poster Boys Club, but there is still time to turn it around.
