    Ruben Castillo deserves a mention - won 69 (KO 37) + lost 10 + drew 2.
First title shot was against Alexis Arguello above his natural weight - he was ahead after 8, but got stopped in the 11th.
Next title shot was against Salvador Sanchez - pulled ahead in the middle rounds, but Sanchez closed the gap in the late rounds & won a very hard fought decision.

Got a little patchy after that & was stopped by Julio Cesar Chavez, then lost most his remaining fights before retirement, but Castillo was a very good fighter & would of likely been a solid champion in a lesser era.

PS. agree that Sam Langford was the best.

Sam Langford is one of the most feared, gifted boxers in history to have never won a world title. Dempsey and Johnson were very open when discussing Sam.

Johnson said Sam was the toughest 'smoke' that he ever fought. Refused to fight him again after their first fight.

Dempsey himself said he feared Sam and Sam was old at that point.

Oba Carr. Always competitive in his big fights and always came up short.

Leses to Trinidad, ODLH and Quartey

Even worse, since Gatti was an extremely mediocre champ himself
Gatti was a 3 division champ. Look at his record again.

He held the IBF at 130 and WBC at 140. Thats it.

Maybe you should actually take a look at his record?

After the loss to Mayweather, Gatti moved up to the welterweight division. He beat Thomas Damgaard on January 28, 2006, by an eleventh round technical knockout to win the vacant IBA Welterweight title and become a champion in 3 different weight divisions.

Maybe you should've looked closer at that record.

In a boxing world of devalued alphabet straps can you honestly say one is better than another.

It's a legit sanctioning body and unlike the WBA they don't have 3 champs per division or the WBC with their "silver" and "diamond" titles.
