Why do fighters and promoters think an 0 is going to make them a star?

Because an undefeated record is a pretty easy thing to market. Duh.

Of course there's a lot of other variables involved in making someone a star, but that doesn't negate the power of having a clean record. Casuals are pretty simple for the most part, it's usually pretty easy to fool them and sell a product to them as being far greater than it really is (i.e. making everyone think somebody is a world beater by feeding them tomato cans and whatnot.)

They don’t support their fighters like UK fans do and quick to write off a fighter . If fans drop and stop supporting or being interested in fighters as soon as they take a L of course the people in charge are going to milk that O for as long as possible and try and maintain the fighters buzz for as long as possible.

US Fans and the media are so fickle and and so quick to jump off a fighters bandwagon as soon as they take a L and hop onto the next undefeated flavour of the month. It’s like fans think fighters their fans of are a representation of themselves and if they take a L then their a Loser also so can’t have that and let’s ride the d.ick of the next undefeated fighter with some Buzz , that will make me a winner also , Fans f.ucking cry about wanting the best to fight the best but that will inevitably have one fighter take a L and lose their hype and for the fans and media to talk non - stop sh.it about them , it’s no wonder the people involved in the sport try and ride that 0

In team sports no team wins year after year , even the Patriots take losses and fans still will support their team even if their dogs.hit for long periods of time regardless, Probably because it’s expected even if your favourite team is good they probably won’t win the championship and the chances of them doing
For consecutively is f.ucking slim , But the fans ride for their team through thick and thing . Your looked at as kind of a f.aggot if you’re the type of fan in team sports to jump from the best team to the best team and claim them as your favourite , If you are only rooting For the current best team . It be a good for the sport if boxing fans would be fans of fighters for their entire career not just when their hot

That’s one of the good thing the UFC has done is if a fighter takes a L they don’t completely write them off and act like they never were sh.it to start with and the media in the sport will still hype them up and it makes the fans not care as much if a fighter takes a L because it’s not really a big deal really , because 99% of Fighters Will take a L sometime in their career it doesn’t change the fact they can’t or were never good or great fighters.
      Great post ^

The networks are far more invested in an undefeated record than the fans are. The networks seem to push undefeated fighters more because casual fans equate not losing with being great or being the best.

Networks are invested in it probably because they see and realize that Boxing fans and the media are overall basically sh.it and quick to lose interest and not support a fighter who takes a L. So yeah they’ll push that 0 also to keep the fans interest

If fans and media supported fighters and them taking A couples L wouldn’t result in them bashing them and losing interest and acting like they were never sh.it to begin with. And they still would support them I’m pretty sure the networks wouldn’t care if a fighter took Ls , they care about viewers and $ the 0 is irrelevant to them.

Why can the UFC have guys with basically a .500 record , the Media and fans will still be interested in a fighter and support and act like he’s actually decent and not a complete piece of sh.it and worthless , they will still get behind them when they fight. The media doesn’t feel the need to degrade their own sport they work in and their fans don’t feel the need to sh.it on a fighter and completely write them off if they lose. It’s looked at As not a Big deal. Boxing probably because it’s not under 1 banner and so many forces in the sport are working against each other that it results in a crab in a bucket mentality from almost everyone involved, with lots of sh.itty biased media coverage with them playing favourites and going out of their way to sh.it on different en****** that they arent aligned with and that trickles down to the fans mentality of how your supposed to be a fan of the sport and support the fighter .

We just want to see him face actual competition. No more mismatches. He's 24 years old and has been boxing since he was 5 years old. Its time to step it up.

Few posts in and I already see deflection at its finest. This thread isn't about Golovkin guys, it's about Tank Davis. Perfect example of trying to save face.

I think this is an American thing, build the perfect Hollywood sort of “Undefeated” champion, and it has caught on especially in the UK. Frank Warren use to do this with a lot of our fighters in the early/middle 2000s and sometimes it works until the boxer steps it up and loses. Personally don’t care for it. But I can appreciate it if that fighter has fought everyone like Floyd Mayweather himself did. But losing isn’t a major weakness to me. As along as the fighter can dust themselves up and try and have a go at it.

The problem is when you are trying to build a star, and you have a model that it seems you follow, then it becomes an issue. PBC are currently doing this and it doesn’t help the sport at all.

lol at all this superstar talk. That status isnt for every fighter and it takes more than fighting ability to become one.

You have to at least have a little bit of personality and know how to speak properly.

Davis is not star material. He comes off as too stupid to be a household name. He looks like there is a big question mark inside his head whenever there is a camera in his face.

Just because he’a beaten couple tomato cans and a smaller Ruiz, he is superstar material? Gtfo

Come on, you're acting like the guy is a kid and a novice. He's in his mid 20's. He'll be 25 this year.

Floyd was fighting tough opposition before 25, most fighters were unless they got badly avoided, turned pro late or got mismanaged where nobody knows them and can't get the fights, none of which is happening to Davis.

Stop acting like the guy is 18. He's a grown man that's been pro for 6 years.
