Not much film exists of this great little fighter. Manuel Ortiz won the bantamweight title twice, was champion for seven years, made 15 defenses during his first reign, overall in over 20 title bouts and also successfully went up in weight to face and beat many top featherweights.

Only Willie Pep, the featherweight champ, beat him in his prime.

Weird, just wrote something on Ortiz today prior to ever seeing this thread.

Luis Castillo the fighter who Ortiz is fighting in the video I posted up was a tough cookie in his own right. He had over 100 fights. He had 3 cracks at Ortiz and lost all 3 times. Do he did manage to win the California State Bantamweight Title and get a draw with Tony Olivera for the New York/NBA duration World Bantamweight Title, he fought most of his career in his native Mexico. His nickname was Pocket Battleship and he stood 4''11.
