Cotto's core strength and leg strength in my opinion have always been his strongest asset! (But they where severely impacted during that fight, because he had out grown the weight class)....

(So overall the easiest way to spot a weight drained fighter, is to see how they react when they are hit! focus on the strength their legs and core stability)....
    Thank you!!!

        Yea that's pretty obvious.
Usually if they come in dry, take a while to get going and gas out early are all pretty good indicators....and obviously if they struggle to make weight or look like skelator at tye weigh in.

Let's get this on record right now so we can tell the difference between being weight drained or losing to a better fighter regardless of weight.
Go re-watch Ward vs Dawson and you will see the perfect example of a fighter who looked SUPERB on the scales and was a zombie on fight night.

Go watch Cotto vs Geale so you can see what a zombie looks like on the scales AND in the ring.

You will have your answer with those 2 fights.

Not getting a good sweat on before entering the ring. This is the clearest sign. If a fighter is dried out he won't sweat or won't sweat properly. Rehydratation is so important.

And if they get weighed the night if and they haven't gained much or anything back.

Oscar against Manny was text book. He lost too much weight and looked like a skeleton and then actually lost weight between the weighin and the night of. He looked dry in the ring and when he started to sweat it was not an even sweat.
The sweat point is spot on. So much of weight cuts are shedding water from the body - someone who is drained and hasn't rehydrated effectively, will have very little perspiration to expunge.

If a fighter looks as barren as a nun's gash - he's drained.

Yea Cotto-Geale is another no brainer. The Cotto-Pacquiao fight is another good one. I watched that Dawson-Ward fight earlier. Legs being gone seems to be the #1 indicator
