  • How the **** did Gerald McClellan go to war with Nigel Benn....

For 10 rounds with whatever brain injury he had during that fight???

Seriously if it weren't bad enough fighting Benn fully healthy how did he manage to go ten rounds of pure war with him all whilst hanging his gumshield half way out his mouth and struggling to see properly?

Just looking back on this fight randomly and thinking if i can think of a tougher display of heart showed by the G Man than in that fight.

Truly incredible display of heart showed by both men, hard to believe really.

If the ref had stopped the fight in the first round (and let's be honest, UK refs stop things early these days for far less) who knows how McClellan's career would have gone.

Super middleweght history might be very different today.

Can't really watch this fight anymore. Too sad when you know the eventual outcome.

There's a disgusting article detailing how after the fight, G-Man didn't know what had happened, because he'd blacked out mid fight and didn't even remember going down on one knee. When he asked what had happened, Don King told him, "You quit, like a dog."

          True.

It deffo should have been stopped in the first round but it wasn't.

What makes me think he already went into the fight with some sort of injury though was just some of the mannerisms of his during that fight, he just did not look right and that was from the beginning of the fight, which makes it even more remarkable how he was able to stand toe to toe with a warrior like Nigel Benn for ten rounds!

Then to have to listen to that **** Jim Watt question his heart all whilst in hindsight knowing now what we know it was probably one of the most amazing displays of heart inside a boxing ring ever.

I wonder that every time I hear either of their names mentioned.

Never heard of that before but nothing would surprise me with Don King.

You see him after the fight trying to weasel his way into the Benn camp all whilst his fighter is lying badly injured on the canvas.

Ref made the right choice. Benn was still able to continue.

So you think he went into the fight with some sort of injury but you don't KNOW if he was injured going into the fight. You are just guessing he was. Benn often hits fighters who are already down. He hit Barkley when he was down and he hit a couple of downed fighters in this video.

The fact that Benn went on to win is proof enough the ref made the right choice.
