  • Too much "Science of Boxing" not enough "Entertainment"

That's the problem of these fighters. Afraid to take risk to show the world that you are a level or two above a fighter. Floyd did it in the Lower weights, PAcquiao did it in the lower weights all the way to the 2009 welterweight.

Boxing is not also a sport but also an entertainment for people who watch. 95% of boxing fans are casuals, appeal to the casuals first and entertain them, and that means knock them out, don't be content with just being 'satisfied' of winning or getting the decision.

Its a fighter job to win fights. To fight in a manner that helps them win.

You want to see Tom Brady scrambling every play? Want to see Shaq shooting threes?

what the hell are you ranting about. garcia and thurman took the risk by just getting in the ring in the first place with each other, they could have cherry picked but they put there '0s' on the line, fair play to them both. Does a win only count if you knock the other guy out now then?

Nah, it's a professional fighters job to entertain people. Which is why mediocre fighters who have balls and are exciting make millions while Guillermo Rigondeaux can't fill a McDonalds parking lot in Miami, and that's the way it should be.

If the general public doesn't find it entertaining, boxing will continue to see less money and lower viewership and we'll have fewer and fewer cards on TV in America.

Saying all of that, I didn't think any of the fights last night were too "sweet science." Thurman just felt he was ahead and got on the De La Hoya bike the last three rounds.

If it is considered a "risk" to fight better competition instead of being an obligation then I question that, especially if you need to show the world how much better you are than your opponent, but It seemed it is already too much to ask for these fighters.

Don't care. He got the win and the Thurman vs Brook/Spence winner matchup will attract a lot of interest. Just keep winning and people will want to see you test against the best opponent on the scene.

Are you saying you will not be watching the Thurman vs Brook/Spence matchup?

Thurman gave us a lot of entertainment in the first half of the fight. May be if he took the first half of and did what he did in the first half in the second half, you would be happy? I enjoyed last night fight.

It also Sunday. You should go to church.

Entering that ring is a risk, try it.

Thurman had a barn burner with Porter eight months ago and people found reasons to complain about that fight too.

While its the fighters job to "win", there's also a flip side. They lose the right to complain when they're not making big $ due to the lack of interest in seeing them fight.

Fighters like Rigo and Ward are excellent boxers yet cant draw then complain about how they're not "appreciated".

Not true, pro fighters job is to win. As for Guillermo Rigondeaux it's bob arum that created an image for the general fans that don't watch boxing on a regular basis not to "fill a McDonald's parking lot in Miami" cuz Rigondeaux beat his fighter he had plans for so he tarnished his career (not cool, that should be some personal beef if I was Rigondeaux) and the general public is so gullible that if you keep speaking on a agenda (like he's boring) they actually believe it instead of coming to their own conclusion. Last nights fight was competitive, I had Thurman winning by 2 rounds.
