Cotto's heart and willingness to fight everyone was something his fans made up. He's a great fighter but he wanted nothing to do with Tszyu, Hatton or Mayweather at 140. And for a guy that will "fight anyone" his career at 154 and 160 has been carefully managed. He's definitely not going to fight any of the top threats at 160

Miguel Cotto is overrated and has had the easiest way to title shots the past 20 yrs.

He won some and lost some but damn how can you call the man overrated?
I don't see what the problem is here - The other best fighters in the division have straps already, so if Cotto wins this, it allows maybe a big unification for Cotto's last fight.
Also it probably adds a few $ on both Cotto and more importantly, Kamegai's purse.

First of, let me just say I have been one of his biggest fans up until after the Mayweather fight. He has now lost me because of his diva behavior (leaving interviews in fights he clearly lost like the Trout, Mayweather and Alvarez fights..)
Every title he ever won has been vacant, except the Martinez fight and we all know that story.
His best title wins are a crippled Martinez back in 2014, 3 years ago, Shane Mosley - 10 years ago which is probably his best win to date.
I mean, does anyone even rate this guy anymore? It's hard to be a boxing fan, so many other fighters deserve to get a shot at the title but Cotto is handed shot after shot just because of his name.

And for the record, I'm not saying he isn't good, a HOFer or exciting. I'm saying that I think a lot of his best wins are not that great, I'm saying he has lost his biggest fights.
Most of all I'm saying that his behavior in defeat has dissapointed me and this is why I cant be a fan of his. I like his style but I cant support a man who behaves like that. Look at Klitschko in defeat - respectful. Look at Pacquiao - respectful (except the socks excuse...).

Cotto was like Clyde Drexler in the Jordan era or Paul George in the LeBron era......a very good fighter that will always make the Elite work as hard as they can but not on that ridiculous level only a few reach....

I'm sure if he spent his career cherry picking alphabet champions his resume would look a lot less impressive than it does now.
All fighters have ebbs and flows in terms of level of competition, and you can make the case that Cotto has picked up a couple of 'easy titles', but its a straw man argument, just look at who he has fought and when he fought them, his resume is a who's who of elite guys in the past decade.
He's in a position now where 99.9% of the fighters in and around his weight class would jump to fight him, not because he's easy, but because for most of these guys he represents a life changing pay day, or at the very least a huge pay day. Thats the top and bottom of it.
......Good post
