  • What can Arum do to make Bud's welterweight opponents look good?

    Carlos Adames, Jose Benavidez
and Egidijus Kavaliauskas are not bad fighters but how can these guys be built so it doesn't look like a bunch of mismatches?

He can't. It would take waiting and having those guys beat real contenders before fighting Crawford, but TR has neither the time nor patience for that. There are simply not enough good WW's out there that aren't with PBC, so Arum has very few options. Better to fight over=matched guys in house than random European or South American bums.

The easiest way to do that is to knock off the old trial horses that the public sees can fight.

Luis Collazo is basically that guy; still sharp but long in the tooth, crafty, smart, hasn't been made to look inept in a fight in maybe a decade.

Problem with going that route is that you have to know that the fighter you're trying to get to shine is actually good enough to beat a guy like Collazo.

Truth is people would rather see him fight an over hyped bum like Provodnikov instead of seeing him fight a real talent like Kavaliauskas. I really don't see what could be done, especially with today's shallow talent pool.

Nothing. He needs to fight outside his stable.

Kavaliauskas doesn't have much talent. He showed that yesterday against his first quality opponent.

He can't. Serious boxing fans know how good contenders are. You can't fool them. As long as Arum matches him with legit top 10 contenders he will be fine. Spence will fight him if Arum will agree to it.

who cares what serious boxing fans think? they are the minority and even when you have a cherry picker like floyd many serious fanboys get suckered in and say hes amazing anyway despite his resume and avoidance of all the tough fighters for him

Haymon has a monopoly on the three most respected titles in the weight class.

Arum has a monopoly on the least respected title in the weight class.

Any of the fights people want to see Crawford in = a fight Arum can't deliver.
