  • Comments Thread For: Gary Russell: Berchelt Would Be Easy Work; Too Slow, Flat-Footed

NEW YORK Gary Russell Jr. will remain at featherweight for one reason and one reason only. But if the WBC 126-pound champion cannot secure the title unification fight he wants with Leo Santa Cruz, he plans to move up to 130 pounds for his next fight. Russell out-classed Spain's Kiko Martinez on Saturday before their fight was stopped in the fifth round due to a nasty cut over Martinez's left eye.

Doubt he wants that work. Berchelt will keep coming nd coming. Can Russell handle the heat. I doubt it honestly.

Won’t know for sure unless they fight. Which is apparently a possibility now.

Let’s see if Russell means it

He and his father were hinting that they will be in attendance at the Haney fight to see if they can talk with Matchroom about a deal

Anyway it goes, Russell would have to Fight Berchelt first. He plans to Only stay at 126lb for the Leo Santa Cruz fight, which he was been promised for some time now, but Leo hasn't taken the fight yet. After Santa cruz he plans on moving up to 130lbs. In order for him to be able to compete against a Gervonta Davis he would have to work his way up the rankings for whatever sanctioning bodies that He(Tank) has his title in, BUT because Russell is the WBC Champion he can relinquish his belt and Immediately challange the next Champion at the next division, which would be Berchelt..and that's coming straight from the horses mouth.

LSC...MAN UP! GRJ, don't wait long! Give him 30 days, then pull the trigger! As far as I'm concerned, the 30 days began on Sunday! Also, calling out Al Haymon...BRILLIANT!

It's easy to talk big while reality is playing it safe and fighting bums and has beens.

Russell jr has called out Santa Cruz on national tv and Santa Cruz has said he wants it!

Al Haymon let’s get it done, I’d favor Russell jr!
