White bicycle tape did not exist in 1919. Secondly why do we believe every snippet of comments discribed in print? As a classic example Willard stated he koed Johnson with an uppercut! Do we want to now debate whether Willard in fact koed Johnson with an uppercut? (It was a straight right hand). As a person who has boxed many rounds always with wraps I cannot imagine any tape making punches in any great way harder or give punches more of an ability to cut. It just is not in any way logical.

What you are saying means that people were lying well before the fight about what tape can accomplish, Dempsey’s trainer is lying, people who saw his hands in person are lying, and people who were in his dressing room while he was getting wrapped provided false information.

It’s not logical to believe all of these people and stories from before the fight even took place have lied/are lies because everybody and their momma hated Dempsey. It makes no sense at all.

What would be the motive of a guy who wrote a book and specifically thanked Dempsey for helping him to write it, to say that Dempsey used bicycle tape?
