Phobia’s are completely different though, as I’m sure you can attest to. Someone with a legit phobia has a lot more than just a standard anxiety attack.

I think what he's getting at is you can't judge... can't tell what situations are gonna bring on a panic attack. Stuff that might superficially seem less scary or is less dangerous might trigger the response where a life threatening situation does not. That's my experience also. And any 'legit' phobia as you call it is still only activating the same physical mechanism as any other 'panic attack' if that's what's happening. It's an overwhelming fight/flight feedback whatever the psychological route that triggered it. It's not like your body distinguishes just cos your doctor happened to give you a diagnosis.
