  • Brit vs States healthcare system

US is almost entirely private and UK is almost entirely public, and while neither system is perfect, which is best?

I've never had to deal with the UK system so idk for a fact enough to truly answer the question, but from the talk I've heard about both it seems like with the US you are more likely to get better care although they are overcharging you at every turn specifically if you don't have insurance & in the UK while the financial end is more stable your ass might die before you get the care you need.

Some combo of both of them would probably be the most ideal, but if I had to choose I'd have to say the US system is better cuz its better to be broke than dead.

The UK public healthcare system is notoriously overloaded and is honestly bursting at the seams with waiting lists that can last years but I'd rather have it than not have it. Private healthcare's still available if you can pay for it. I'm not really envious of Americans who have to fight tooth and nail with their insurance providers to get anything, and get either reamed with medical bills or just get left to suffer and/or die if they say no or don't have insurance to begin with. Our system is far, far, far from perfect but I still think it's better than the US.

You don't know what you're talking about. Even with no insurance you aren't left to die. This isn't the UK where they let children die because the cost is too much. There you have it the better system. Better doctors, service, technology.

NHS is far from perfect.. huge waiting times.. the care isn't as good either.. for years we have heard how it's barely holding on..

Well with people living longer and the population more overweight (+ all the health problems that entails).. it can't be too far away from finally bursting

What then? I'd rather not pay huge ****ing taxes because people have eaten/drank/drugged themselves almost to death

Health care is totally free for the absolutely poor/people with no income in the US. Nobody is left to die. I don't know which news agencies continue to spread that myth or what their agenda is.

When you hear about being people screwed and indebted by medical bills, they're talking about the tax-paying middle class: People who are too "wealthy" to qualify for fully subsidized care but not wealthy enough to pay out of pocket + penalized if they don't purchase lackluster insurance.

Even among socialist health care systems, the vast majority of which are dysfunctional and years behind ours in innovation/technology, the UK is a rather poor example.

If the socialist model were to select a "champion" I reckon it would put forth Germany or some such rather than the UK.

All of them face imminent crisis within a generation due to the being overloaded by migrant groups who pay a disproportionately low amount of tax. The sustainability of the socialist model relies on a productivity & tax equilibrium that will no longer exist.

Free healthcare is cool, but if you want a doctors appointment the UK, you'll be waiting for a month, and if you want an operation, you'll be waiting for well over a year.

If you need to see a doctor straight away, you'll be waiting in Accident & Emergency or Bardoc for 5 hours+

Is private hethcare an option to get surgery etc? If so, how expensive?
Do they have any private hospitals in the UK?

How about if i need/want a knee operation but can't afford it?
Is there a public system that will pay for that for me? (After a waiting period)
