P4P i have him number 4 now. As a MW Harry Greb was a victim of his time. Many MW as Johnny Wilson ducked him for years. Greb badly beat MW champion Al McCoy in 1917 but since it was a NC due to prohibitive laws, a newspaper decision would be rendered, this meant only a KO win for Greb would make him champion. Greb had the same thing happened against Mike O'Dowd. He didn't become MW champion until 1923 when Johnny Wilson finally allowed him a crack at the title. However, there is a story behind it. Greb's wife had recently died due to TB, and Greb was seen drinking and appearing intoxicated in person. The whole thing was a ploy to make Wilson think he was 'washed up' Wilson took the bait and also got a beating in return.

Greb would have added more MW defenses if he didn't have to deal with the ducking and newspaper decisions. Most agree he is easily among the top MW's with SRR, Monzon, and Hagler.

The fact that Greb defeated 13 Hall of famers and two other guys that went to the World Hall of Fame gives him an impressive resume. He also displayed some great P4P ability by knocking out natural heavyweight as he fought as a MW. I don't want to start another Dempsey ducking thread, but Dempsey wanted no part of Greb after he got dominated in sparring sessions by the Pittsburgh windmill.

BTW, as most in this section know the guy fought blind in one eye for the final years after suffering a detached retina against Kid Norfolk, only adds more awe in what this man accomplished.
