I dont know whether he wants spinner chains and purple drank handed out for free or what the **** kinda marketing is supposed to target his apparent demographic but thats his basic gripe
That's crazy. It's literally the opposite. Boxing in the US is marketed specifically to Mexicans and black Americans, and white boxers are constantly used to build up those two. Look at GGG, they built him up as the great he was in his prime, but HBO never put up the money behind him to get him legacy fights in his prime, and all the black American boxers under Haymon ducked him during his prime, but once he started to slip that's when HBO suddenly got interested in having him fight Canelo, and then they used their biased commentary to try to elevate Canelo while the equally biased or corrupt judges gave him a draw.

Same thing with Kovalev. They built him up as the great fighter he was in his prime, but failed to make the Stevenson fight for him OR the Ward fight during his prime, then waited until he got old so they could try to use him to build up Ward into their next PPV star like Mayweather used to be, but it didn't work out quite how they planned. Max Kellerman even literally SAID that it was Ward's right or something like that to only fight Kovalev when the timing was 100% perfect for Ward. An objective commentator would say that fights should happen at the time that is fair to both fighters, when both are in their primes.

Then the corrupt judges robbed Kovalev, and the ref in the second fight, and the HBO commentators were responsible for the cover up trying to pretend like no crime was committed, figuratively speaking (but also maybe literally? It is a crime to rob someone isn't it?), and to pretend like Ward landed "body shots" not nut shots.

It goes on and on. Lomachenko robbed in favor of a Mexican boxer in his 2nd pro fight. Looks like they were planning to rob him last night as well.

So I dont know what he's talking about. American boxers (usually black) and Mexican boxers are constantly being protected by every aspect of the boxing establishment in America. It's the european boxers (usually white) who constantly get screwed over.

So bottom line keep getting the word out to your friends, coworkers, family, whenever theres a great fight about to happen.
That’s right! Word of mouth is always the best advertisement! Well stated

This is a f******g joke! These ratings are a disaster for Top Rank and ESPN. Can't believe you guys are falling for the spin.

The fact that ESPN is comparing itself to premium networks that have 1/3 the number of ESPN that ESPN does is the first sign that ESPN is struggling for a positive angle.

More importantly, a 1.0 rating is NEVER anything to brag about when you're talking about networks and basic cable channels.

A 1.0 rating for ESPN is going to be about 1.2 - 1.3M viewers. That's terrible for ESPN. Last Saturday at 8pm Eastern ESPN did TWICE that many viewers for just a regular old SportsCenter.

ESPN is in about 86 million homes. HBO about 32, Showtime about 25. So whenever ESPN and its 86 million homes generates a similar number of viewers of HBO and Showtime generate with 25-30 million homes, then that's NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT.

Put another way, ESPN is in 50-60 million more homes than HBO and Showtime, and yet Loma on ESPN, Golovkin on HBO and Wilder on ESPN generated around the same number of viewers. That's an embarrassment for ESPN, not a "big rating."

Hearn recognizes the black market is being ignored. That's why all the fighter he listed as targeting were black and only one Mexican
Boxing isn't marketing to blacks and Hispanics????? AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

That's exactly who Showtime and HBO target. They run boxing ads during NBA, college basketball, on BET and VH-1 and Spanish language radio and newspapers, on Complex and BSO websites, etc.. If anything, HBO and Showtime are neglecting the white audience.

Hearn knows nothing about marketing to blacks and Hispanics. His crowds are all white.

These are unofficial. For example, Golovkin and Jacobs had the same overnight rating, but Jacobs did 800K, while Golovkin did 1.25M. This fight will likely come in around 1.7-1.8M average which is a great number for boxing considering HBO and Showtime have only had 3 fights in the last 3 years even break 1M.

More homes is great, but irrelevant when the boxing fanbase in America is as small as it is. That's why Thurman averaging 3.1M vs. Porter and 3.75M vs. Garcia is such a crazy number.

But do those cities have huge ratings when black fighters are on, or was there something specifically related to last night's fight? I'm sure LA typically does good ratings since they have a big hispanic community as well. Maybe Lomachenko is the next Mayweather and blacks are tuning in to see him lose?

I don't think boxing is really marketed to anyone over here. It's not marketed and promoted period. I do think they should have events in different cities more often though.

True but many Showtime subscribers have Showtime because they like watching boxing. For a long period of time you had to have Hbo and Showtime if you were a boxing fan. If Pbc had a better product they would be getting big numbers. Just a few years ago Showtime was pulling in 1 million plus viewers often. Now 750kis considered a high number. Espn is a paid service too so they make most of their money from subscribers not just ratings. Crawford on Hbo was pulling in 1 million viewers a fight and did about the same on Espn. The ratings will only go up from here on Espn while Pbc will continuously see sub par numbers.
