Turning down the biggest payday of your career and a mega fight giving you exposure all over the world just to disadvantage yourself and shorten your career to fight less high profile fighters for likely less money is just stupid.
He didn't have a mega fight on the way at that time, and how much do you think he could've made fighting DeGale at Wembley? He's getting 30% now, and with a ppv that just happened @ 4 million plus views, it's a crap shoot on how many buys it will do. That's not even the point, the point is he could've been a megastar by trying to prove he's REALLY p4p win or lose. He chose to stay in a bum division and wait for a smaller guy to move up. Wouldn't meet at any kind of cw though...noooo, golovkin and his 2 [email protected] (known as Loeffler and Sanchez) still think he's some kind of draw....smh.

he was also in his 30's by the time he really broke into american boxing. and he was not as good as manny pacquiao, one of the best boxers ever and one of the greatest, if not the greatest, modern weight climber.

Why when you had guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr a division below him both Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto held belts within his division. Who the f*ck was up at 168 that could have earned GGG even half the money and popularity from the general public than getting any one of those fights would do?

Beating DeGeale wouldn't have made GGG a megastar. Beating Ward wouldn't have made GGG a megastar. Beating Canelo in a great fight has a really good shot at making GGG a megastar while also paying him a career high payday. Only an insane person would choose chump change cash in fights with people no one really cares about. Besides, there is still time for the DeGeale fight. There is still time for a Gilberto Ramirez fight. There is still time for a fight with whomever wins that 168 pound tournament. But as long as a the window to take a fight with Canelo remains open it's insane not to do everything in your power to make it happen. Or would you give GGG grief for moving up for those fights instead of giving Lara and the Charlos a chance and Jacobs his rematch?

By the way, Marvin Hagler is an ATG and he never left middleweight. Carlos Monzon is an ATG and he never left the middleweight division. Bernard Hopkins fought at middleweight for the vast majority of the first 16 years of his career at middleweight. GGG has only been fighting for 11 years total. B-Hop fought two epic fights with Antaun Echols.

And lets not forget the most unnecessary and unwanted trilogy in the history of the sport with Robert Allen. In any case, wasting time with those guys kept Hopkins busy until he was able to get a shot at Tito Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya. Beating those guys made B-Hop a star. Yet, I don't hear you whining about how B-Hop could have moved up to 168 at any point. He made the right choice for his career. If GGG beats Canelo then he would have made the right choice as well.

Oh here with go with the Hopkins excuse, not mentioning Hopkins had a very successful run AFTER 160. Beating Ward? Lol well he was never going to beat Ward because golovkin is an hbo hype job...maybe DeGale, beating DeGale imo would put him on the map in 2 weight classes. After all, what happened to the 154-168 comment? I guess in there was a little blur that said (as long as it's at 160)

HBO used to push no name American fighters aswell tho. They have always hyped up their fighters.

No one is in Mayweather, Pacquiao or Oscar league when it comes to PPV but in todays market GGG is one of the biggest draws. Outside of Canelo who can draw more than GGG? Most big fights nowadays arent even on PPV
