  • COMMENTS THREAD FOR: Bob Arum's Stadium in Las Vegas: Plans Underway?

Yahoo Sports reported yesterday that MGM Grand could build a 30,000 seat temporary stadium to compete with Jerry Jones' bid to host the super fight in Dallas.

I've always wondered why people find building the stadium so hard to believe when Las Vegas builds pyramids and Eiffel towers in just a few months.

It only took Las Vegas a mere 3 months to build the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace. The most expensive entertainment venue/arena/theater in all of Las Vegas. This is a permanent, decadent and luxurious 4500 seat arena they built for Celine Dion concerts.

I don't understand why people think it is so far fetched that they can't put up some bleachers and port a pottys for the biggest fight in history.

Since I've done construction before I know **** can be built pretty quick if workers actually work. My concern with the whole stadium idea is why? Why build a stadium now when it wasn't necessary before for mega fights? They could just up the seat tickets and ppv price if needed. And why is the B side so worried about **** that the A side and lead promoter should be worried about? I'd rather pay $100 for HD at home than even $25 for a nosebleed seat I can barely see **** from but that's just my opinion.

They just built a temporary stadium in Belfast for Frampton's last fight against Martinez. It's not some impossible feat.

Whether Arum was just blowing hot air or not is up for debate but people were talking as if it defied the laws of physics or something.

Do you know the seating capacity and how long it took to build it?

            I agree with that.

It was an interesting coincidence that news of the stadium is reported at Yahoo Sports the day after Jerry Jones starts making noise about hosting the fight in Dallas.

It makes me wonder if all the talk of the Stadium in Vegas is really just a card Arum is playing to start a bidding war among Jones, Sheiks and the Casinos over who gets to host the fight.

It'll be really lame if at the end of the day, it's just another Floyd fight at his home in the MGM Grand Garden.

Leonard/Hearns I had a stadium built for it in a parking lot at Caesars. It happens.

Sounds like the MGM is in on Arum's fight killing scheme. The Flomos were right!
"The MGM could also construct a temporary outside facility in a parking lot of one of its properties that could seat 30,000-plus in an effort to meet ticket demand."

This topic has been exhausting for the past 3 years or so. I've accepted that this fight just won't happen, and more people should too.

Pacquiao is fighting Vargas and Mayweather is fighting Khan next. Let's all accept this and finally let this fight die once and for all.

Didn't Arum just get into a big feud with MGM?
