Was GGGs performance the blueprint for kovalev against ward?

People continue to underestimate how much damage a well placed punch from a man Ward's size would do. They alao don't seem to understand how build influences what a fighter is capable of. It is unfortunate because those are the issues, with what the thread starter is proposing, that should be visible at first glance. Kovalev is longer than GGG and Ward is a better counter puncher than Brook; Kovalev would leave himself open and get countered.

There's also other things like Ward's ability to smother his opponents and maneuver out of hia opponents range.

If Kovalev employs your strategy then he will get knocked down while rushing in at some point. He is not iron chinned like Golovkin and can't afford to be reckless against someone as precise as Ward. He has to box and be patient to create openings..... He is good enough to do that hence the intrigue of the fight.
Sorry im not having it that ward has power, people must have watched a different andre ward to me.He doesn't need to be patient. I watched it with quigg and Frampton, quigg being patient for 6 rounds lost him the fight lol. Kovalev wont outbox ward so why bother trying, yeah sure hes going to look clumsy at times but hes got to take ward out of his comfort zone, walk him down from round 1. Think people overthink tactics on here sometimes, wasn't a lot of tactics for GGG against a slick guy with little power other than walk him down, hit him hard, often and get him out of there ASAP.

Again you are all saying 'bigdramashow is stupid, bigdramashow doesn't know what hes on about' but we had all this **** with mayweather, people coming up with elaborate gameplans to beat him. Then the best gameplan of all was from maidana who just got straight up into him from round1 throwing hard and heavy shots. 'fighter of the decade' pacquiao paid him too much respect and look what happened...

Maybe Barrera looked like he had some "success" vs Ward, but look at the score cards!
... and, again, watch the "highlights"...

Watched them it shows Barrera landing a lot and Ward hitting gloves at times but the commentary counting it as scoring shots plus Barrera is probably a B- level fighter.

First off Brook is not slick, if he is then we need to find a better word to describe Ward.

You sound like someone that hasn't been watching the sport for long. If it was as simple as bum rushing Ward to beat him then I'm sure one of the world class trainers in his opponents corner would have figured it out.

You forget one thing, no one likes getting hit and no one likes feeling the force of a punch upside their head. If your reckless and eat a few punches, you're going to become hesitant to go in the same way. Kovalev doesn't look like a guy that wants to eat punches so your bull rush strategy will not favour him. Kovalev needs to first clearly hurt Ward before any plans of rushing in for a finish.

... Well... These were the "Bay area" (i.e. Oakland) score cards... But this time around, Ward fights in Vegas...
