Only Targaryens have right to claim the throne, no one else. The reason Robert Baratheon became king, though he stated he's not the ruler type, was because his grandma was a Targaryen

    • Yeah, the Targereans united the 7 kingdoms by conquering them all (except Dorne) so there was no throne of Westeros before them just a bunch of different kingdoms.

No, the first book begins with the first scene in Season One, except the Night's Watchman who ran away was an older experienced ranger.

Then it goes into Ned executing him, finding the wolves, the king's visit, etc.

The books do mention earlier stuff in parts though.

The scene at the Tower of Joy with Lyanna's "promise me Ned" is a recurring memory of Lord Stark's during the first book, especially when he's in the dungeon at King's Landing.

No, his claim to throne is that he overthrew the Targaryens.

He is king because he led the rebellion.

yes he did that, but Robert also admitted he's not fit to rule and all he wanted was to kill Rhaegar. He offered the throne to either Jon Arryn or Ned. But in the end they insist him to take the throne because he has Targaryen blood in him.

No they insisted it be him because he was the one who led them there. He started the rebellion, he defeated Raeghar in single combat and won the war.

They didnt want anything to do with Targaryens anymore. Thats why they tried to kill all the remaining Targaryen kids.

But the thing is, he doesn't want to rule. Yeah he led the rebellion but Jon Arryn orchestrated it and he's not looking sit in the Iron Throne. If were looking for a reason for someone other than him, Ned could become King because he holds the North (largest army in Westeros) plus the Tully's alliance. Despite this and Ned's reluctance, they named Robert king because he's a still a close relative of the precedent royal family

A Targaryen would have the most legit claim to the throne, though.
