There is much demand for Khan vs. Maidana. Much more demand for that fight than for any other fight Khan could be involved in right now.

If it's true that Maidana is really asking for $1 million, then that's too high, but as someone else said that may just be a negotiating ploy because he feels he's being low-balled currently. He brings a lot to the table because of the fact that he's the first opponent with the ability to test Khan's chin since the Prescott fight, and because many people (including HBO) think Khan's been ducking him up to now. That's what makes it a very big money-spinning fight and is why Maidana brings a lot to the table.

And because he was told by GBP to step aside and not enforce his mandatory at the beginning of the year, when he was within his rights to have Khan stripped, on the promise that he'd make more money from the fight when it eventually happened if he went along with that arrangement, it's not surprising that he now wants a much better payday than normal.

If GBP, as the main promoter can find extra money from somewhere in order to give Maidana closer to what he wants, without Khan having to take a lower than normal payday, then Khan has no right to complain about that. If GBP can't find any extra money in order to be able offer Maidana any more, then they'll need to convince Maidana to accept what's on the table.

It's clear that both Khan and Maidana do want the fight to happen, and all the hate posts saying otherwise are wide of the mark.

But Khan and Maidana are both making the negotiations harder by going public about this. They should both STFU to the media until the negotiations are over.

See here:
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com last week that Maidana is not going to take "short money" for a clash with Khan.

It's expected that a deal will be reached. In the event the negotiations fall apart, Victor Ortiz has been named as a secondary option for Khan's next defense of the WBA title. To keep his name in the running, Ortiz will have to beat former champion Vivian Harris on September 18 at Staples Center.

On those numbers a Million is way too high but that is most likely a high try on first offer.
I agree. Almost all neutrals think 60/40 is fair. If the total pot available for purses really is only $1.5 million, then 60/40 would be $900k to $600k.
