  • Mike "The Bounty" Hunter

More heavyweights from the late 80's, 90's. Mike Hunter was a very good and underated heavyweight whose greatest victories were over Oliver McCall, Pinklon Thomas, Dwight Qawi, Tyrell Biggs, Jimmy Thunder (a ko over undefeated puncher) and Alexander Zolkin. Impressive list, not? Very impressive for a totally obscure fighter, more or less. He had drug problems and retired after losing to Brian Nielsen by TKO5 and was later tragically shot after an altercation with the police, in 2006. RIP.

Here is that ko of Thunder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7Pmw...rec_grec_index

In a way Hunter reminded me of Jimmy Young, hard to hit and a clever ring tactician. Perhaps not quite on the level of Young but entertaining to see him do his stuff. Unfortunitely drug problems kept him from going all the way.

His son is supposed to be very good but its a bit worring with his dads record that he was thrown out the olympic trials for using weed. Hope he doesnt blow it.

There is a good article on the net about him getting thrown out. He was supposed to be one of the favs to win the gold medal at the worlds but when he was given a blood test had traces of weed in his blood and the Americans banned him for 2 months. It was'nt a serious drug abuse problem or anything like that and he is free to try and qualify for the olympics. Hunter has been training with Wlad recently.
