  • McGregor seemingly rejects Floyd Mayweather training offer: ‘There is no peace here’

Earlier today, Floyd Mayweather appeared to extend the olive branch to former opponent Conor McGregor.

And it looks like “The Notorious” has snapped that branch in half.

Talking to TMZ, Mayweather expressed an interest in both attending McGregor’s upcoming title fight with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 and in having the Irishman spend time training at his boxing club in Las Vegas. This past weekend marked the one-year anniversary of Mayweather and McGregor’s blockbuster boxing bout that took place last August, which Mayweather won by 10th-round TKO.

McGregor must have heard about Mayweather’s offer, because he took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to issue a response.

“F**k the Mayweathers,” McGregor wrote, though he noted that this insult was not directed at Mayweather’s father or his uncle Roger Mayweather. He added that “there is no peace here, kid” and told Mayweather to “step up or step down.”

Mayweather and McGregor will forever be inextricably linked by their highly publicized crossover feud, but it doesn’t look like they’ll be teaming up to tackle the unbeaten Nurmagomedov anytime soon.

Floyd training McGregor boxing is the equivalent of Rudolf Nureyev training Jackie Gleason to do a grand jeté. As George Foreman said, "You can't make a jackass a thoroughbred."
