  • Tom Loeffler K2: Fury-Wladimir Rematch In May, June Or July - UK Or Germany

The rematch between RING, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko is being targeted for this summer with the venue still up for grabs, K2 Promotions Managing Director Tom Loeffler told ******.com.

“That looks like it’s going to be either May or June or even possibly July,” Loeffler said. “There are a lot of moving parts there between the arenas, the UK pay-per-view, German TV, HBO, so we’re trying to put everything together. But that will happen in that time frame, I think, May, June or July.”

As for where the fight will land, reports have pegged the location in either the United Kingdom or the United Arab Emirates. Loeffler said in a text message on Monday it was likely headed to one of the soccer stadiums in the United Kingdom or Germany. “There’s no one leading site right now,” Loeffler said. “They’re trying to maximize whichever site is available and the revenue that can be generated from it.” Loeffler added that he expects the date and venue “should be decided pretty soon.”

Fury upset Klitschko in November, wresting away the titles in a unanimous decision victory in Germany. The fight was widely panned for its inactivity and lack of action. The rematch has garnered interest as Fury has emerged as a colorful personality and the soon-to-be 40-year-old Klitschko gets to prove if he has anything left after a lackadaisical performance.

So they haven't settled on a date or even a particular month, and they haven't decided on a location. Not much confirmed really, the way this is stretching on makes you wonder if the rumours of Fury fighting someone other than Wlad next have something to them.

The Khan-Canelo announcement changed their plans. I heard they originally had May 7th in mind but they can't really risk doing both big events on the same day, and possibly not even in the same month.

Fury can't fight anyone else until he rematches Wladimir because there was a rematch clause in the contract which Wladimir opted to action only a few days after the fight. If Wladimir pulls out of the rematch and reneged on the contract that's one of the few ways Fury could fight someone else, but can't see it happening.

The other way is if he fights without having the titles on the line, but what would be the point of that. Any opponent would want to fight him for the titles, unless it's a no name opponent just trying to make a name for himself.

There is a third option which has been present in previous Klitschko contracts - and that's if they included Vitali as an opponent that Fury might be mandated to face if he beat Wladimir. They've done that before in contracts but I can't see Vitali coming out of retirement to fight Fury. He'll have no chance at this point, it would be an embarrassing end to Vitali's career if that happened and he's too intelligent to put himself in that position.
