Korea was a proxy war

It wasn't a direct war between the us and China

China had no ability to challenge or attack the us directly

The us with its vast navy, air force did

The us decided to limit the wars scope and never attacked China directly. At least officially. There was some cross border instances though.

Hence the us held back.
