  • Comments Thread For: Haye, Bellew Debate if Anthony Joshua 'Quit' in Andy Ruiz Loss

Former rivals Tony Bellew and David Haye came together for a recent Sky Sports special, and had a difference of opinion when it came to subject of Anthony Joshua's TKO defeat at the hands of Andy Ruiz. Back on June 1, Joshua suffered the first defeat of his pro career when he was dropped four times and stopped in the seventh round of action.

... while down, AJ spat his mouthpiece and then wanted ref Griffin to call his corner to put it back... but Griffin decided to stop it...

The referee stopped the fight not AJ stayed on the floor.

How many times you saw boxers spit their mouthpiece to get some more time to recover?

      Diego Corrales an example.

Simple truth is AJ couldn't handle not getting his 30 second mid round tea breaks, everytime he gets tired or hurt.

How many times has he spat his mouth guard or pulled tape off his gloves in past fights. A lot.

Ref did a great job of not letting him cheat, and making it a fair fight for once.

Of course Griffin did the right thing when he stopped the fight...

Can't argue with the stoppage. AJ didn't look like he wanted to carry on but his pride would have made him. He kept getting up after all.

Rather he quit or not. He is soft. Mentally weak. Not mean enough and has no killer instinct. 🥊

                  Definitely.

Only Joshua truly knows if he actually "quit" but he certainly trying to get a breather with the mouthpiece stunt, and showed all the signs of a fighter not wanting to continue.

                  Ridiculous comments from bellew btw.

AJ now saying he's only been taught the basic European style, yeah you've always been stiff, bit late to listen to critics now. Also it's weird it's like he never sweats. I rekon Ruiz could beat AJ in a long distance run and probably on the jump rope too, maybe not lifting weights but that's not really relevant.
