Default What do Fury, Wilder, Ortiz and Whyte have in common?

They all had a path to Joshua but chose a different one with less money at the end of it. Why? Pretty obvious if you use common sense.

Ortiz - Was guaranteed a mandatory shot but chose to fight Wilder for 500k instead, then turned down a 7 mil offer to fight the Wilder rematch.

Wilder - Turned down multiple offers.

Fury - Turned down over 20 mil to fight Wilder for 7.

Whyte - Turned down a Joshua rematch.

You’re implying they’re all ducking Joshua, which isn’t true.

The obvious reason they’ve all taken a different path is to force Joshua’s team to give up more money.

Every time Wilder gets an offer from Joshua, it’s for way more money.

You thought he was stupid to pass up $12 million. His last offer was for, what? $50 million with a guaranteed $50 million rematch? So maybe he knows what he’s doing and you shouldn’t play promoter.

Whyte already fought Joshua, so he’s clearly not scared of him. He turned down an offer for less than $5 million. Joshua turned around and offered Jarrell Miller, Luis Ortiz and Andy Ruiz $6.5 million for fights that aren’t as financially lucrative. Maybe Whyte is confident he’ll get more than $5 million to fight Wilder (he will). Maybe he thinks there will still be a demand for a Joshua rematch even if he loses to Wilder (there will be). Maybe he thinks if he beats Wilder he can command a much bigger purse than Joshua originally offered him (very true.)

Take what I wrote for Whyte and apply it to Tyson Fury as well.

You could use that lame excuse for any duck in history "they thought they'd make more in future".

The fact is they walked away from big money because they thought they had a better chance against Wilder/Fury than Joshua.

This just isn’t true.

They can’t lose money taking the path they’re on and they can only make more.

There isn’t even a financial risk involved because Joshua’s team lowballs everyone so badly.

Flat fees exploit desperate fighters. Wilder, Fury and Ortiz deal with percentages, not flat fees. Flat fees allow fighters and promoters to rake in unlimited revenue for events. Even the ranking bodies demand percentages for their mandatories...

Fury asked for a flat fee and then turned down over 20 mil. Nice try though.

You can't low ball anyone not making nearly what is being offered, its called prize fighting because you take the fight that makes most money. Fury asked for 60% to fight AJ,did he do that with Wilder ? Nope, he said he'd go 50/50 with someone who then was averaging just slightly over 2 million per fight . In Whytes case he wasn't even a champion but was still offered two guaranteed fights worth as high as 15 million even if he lost the first and had Whyte won he would have got 50% of a rematch which is easily 20 million in itself, so where do you come up with this stuff ? Ha
