That was definitely part of it as you post here but the other part is something else people don't want to acknowledge-Hilary was very unlikable.

Romney, Clinton and McCain were older, more experienced, and had deep pockets but none of them had his combination of intelligence and ability to connect. Plus he seemed to always be in tune with the country on the issues.

You can't just run someone black. If that was the case people would've voted for Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.
Yeah I agree that it wasn't just that he was Black. But it was obviously a factor since his election was historic for that reason. I remember how common place it was in the 90s for Black comedians and rappers to say there would never be a Black president. Hell, it was something a lot of the general public didn't think was going to happen either, or at least that they wouldn't be around to see it themselves.

But, I agree that that wouldn't have been a factor if his campaign didn't resonate with people or if no one believed he was gonna win. So yes, he definitely had to have electable qualities to gain the kind of traction he needed to get that excitement about the significance of his win going in the first place. Once he had momentum, that brought out some people that might otherwise have not voted at all.

Black people voted for Obama because he was black AND he was a good talker. Whites were also out in full force. I had friends that I would talk to that said lets give him a shot. I myself also voted for his first term.

Black people have to find someone that appeals to both sides again. Harris wasnt the person.

I surely didn't think he could win because he was a black male and a freshman Senator. That no vote on the war ended up being the best thing he could've done.

Yes I agree that it wasn't just Black people who came out to vote when they might not have voted for another Dem candidate. I guess my point was the Dems had to like him as a candidate first. Then, the fact that his win had historic significance motivated some people to vote who would've just sat at home instead.

Oh yeah, it wasn't like everyone bought into him winning the moment he started running. It took a little while for me also before the reality that he could beat Clinton sank in.

Yeah. He lost California on Super Tuesday and it seemed he was done. Then later in February he just started winning everything and then it seemed like maybe he could win.

Default Harris record etc

I don't like the usual commentary that seems to accompany the end of any candidate's run. Its always about "defining oneself, the issues, yada yada...

But kamala Harris was not a progressive candidate. First of all as a progressive individual, especially one concerned that minority interests are represented, do you really want to nominate a prosecutor? Prosecutors always try to lock people up. They are not known for being sympathetic, or understanding. I might make an exception under some circumstances, but this woman?

She never came out against the death penalty, about bogus drug laws, and was not concerned that minority men, most being African American, were sent to prisons with long drug sentencing. As a matter of fact her actions politically speak to a situation where she and Newsom both, are looking far ahead down the path.

This was not a progressive candidate. Very nice looking lady, hiding a viper is what she was. I think she was exposed. I think the rest of the demos will also be exposed and then Hillary Clinton will claim people are beating down her door to run. These are all weak candidates and Harris was not doing the minority, woman empowering vote any favors. next to go: Pocohantis, who was called on the numbers she presented to make health care work. Bernie is already a bona fide sell out. And Uncle Joe... lol. Watch Hillary make her move.

I read somewhere that under Harris as ag

California had the highest incarceration rate for black men in its history

I don't know how accurate that is or how they calculated that

But if true..... we had record lows in crime since late 90s.

We've had lowest crime rates since like the 1950s.

How the hell is that possible?

I said Obama was kind of a unique example because he was going to be the 1st to do it AND he was a much more eloquent speaker than Booker, Kamala, or any active Black Dem that could have run in this election.

Not to mention, as someone who wasn't really on the political radar at all until he introduced Kerry at the DNC, he came with much less baggage than either of those others.
