Think about death frequently. How can you not? It’s all around you. Also, think about old age which scares me more than death.

Constantly all day every day. It's kind of miserable but I think it makes me a stronger/better person.

Every day you have a thousand chances to take the low road and win the praise of the mob, or take the high road and make yourself a target by standing up for something.

When you're fixated on your own mortality and how short life is, the low road starts to seem pretty pointless. All that matters is whether you can stomach your own memories on your deathbed.

I'm not religious because I don't believe in divine revelation to humans. Undecided if there is some form of personal continuance aside from offspring.

I think the more successful religions like Christianity are just brilliant philosophy honed over many generations. The taboos aren't based in supersition. The superstition was added later to get people to listen. The taboos are really just a list of factors that contribute to social decline.
