A phD in economics is the dumbest thing to get a phD in.

From a more libertarian perspective...the only reason to get a PHD in economics is so the guys of the Left-wing variety do not have a complete monopoly in academia. As you can see with our friend here...he thinks he is superior to everyone because he has taken up economics [puke*]. Politicians and ideological pundits like to cite "experts" with credentials to give their opinion more credibility. They do not deem anyones views worthy or let them have a sit at "the table" unless they're also credentialed up [see federal reserve chairmen history]. So in theory, someone who doesn't agree with left-wing economic thought [i.e. keynesian economics ] would have to suck it up for the most part, not stirring up too many waves, and pretend like they agree in order to make their grades and get a piece of paper that says 'doctor' from one of the big ivy league schools.
