  • How much money is a mandatory challenger purse worth?

Considering he doesn't generate good ratings and doesn't sell out?

For example you have a similar fight in Garcia-Matthysse.
    Matthysse made 785k.

I don't give a fuck how much he got paid against Quillin. That's not our problem, that's Haymon's/Jacobs problem.

Jacobs is nothing but a interim champion/mandatory challenger.

jacobs is using the old boxing trick of claiming money issues to save face publicly for blatantly ducking a fighter.....

how can you haggle getting offered to fight the best fighter in your division after you just survived cancer???

jacobs should be embracing the challenge of surviving cancer and getting a second shot at life and at boxing. he should be FEARLESS with whoever is out there considering the hardships he has gone through....

you would think that kind of experience would make jacobs a tougher guy and have a take on all comers just happy to be alive and getting offered a shot to fight the best in your division mentality...

    instead,

    he acts like a coward.

using the old boxing excuse of not getting enough money....

And he would fight a guy that is turning 35 years old. Explain me WHO had great success after being 35 yo?

Mayweather? Calzaghe? who else? no one. Most fighters are on the decline at 35 years old. Specially if doing VADA testing.

      Jacobs has no excuses.

The days where boxers wanted to prove they were the best in the division is gone.. Its seems like everyone wants to hold a title for cashing out against the highest bidder.. That said, even the sanctioning bodies have made a joke of the titles & lessen its value.. Every body is a regular/interim/intercontinental/local walmart champion these days..

Worth is determined by the power you have to negotiate not the factors the TS lists. An example is Tim bradley, who was never a draw, but worth $6 mil to TR in a Manny fight because they needed a quality opponent for Manny.

Another is Jacobs. GGG wants to unify the belts. As a mando he is entitled to 25% of the purse. However his value is much more in that if they do not reach an agreement.

If a deal is not consummated, the fight goes to purse bid. Losing the purse bid could create a scenario where GGG is forced to vacate the WBA belt. This would end his dream of unification and put him in a difficult position since the WBO looks to be allowing Saunders to fight Canelo.

So its in Jacobs best interest to not agree to the standard 25% but use the possibility of the above and GGG's desire to unify to negotiate a higher purse split, perhaps as high as 35%

In terms of money, you don't answer the question. If GGG makes two millions, then 35% for Jacobs means he earns about 1 million. Would he accept that?

Probably 25% since his record is equally abysmal. Worse considering he was put to rest in the ring before.

Why are you asking a hypothetical where GGG makes such a low amount? We don't know the money because we don't know the purse bid. I expect the winning bid will exceed $3 mil.

As I said, values isn't about the things you listed. Another example is Saunders. He isn't worth $3 mil but K2 offered him that because they want the WBO belt.

Golovkin-Jacobs is likely the type of event that Lou DiBella can sellout Barclays Center with, with Showtime putting up a ton of money for the US TV rights.

The WBA purse bid rules state that the challenger gets 25% of whatever the winning bid is and, no different than with David Lemieux, if the winning fighter's promoter does well with the event , said promoter's fighter shares in the upside.

So. it'll come down to what is the fight worth to K2, with their likely package of the gate from MSG (their prior "sellout" allegedly did $2m) and HBO's license fee.

... Gennady Golovkin is almost 35 years old, has never been in a meaningful fight in his 10-year career, and is haggling his way out of a $10m downside payday.

                    what's Golovkin's excuse?
