Yeah that definitely seemed to leave a mark alright, I think it was as much the fact that Marvin was never presented with the belt in the ring as much as anything.

The Petronelli's objection to Harry Gibb's for the Leonard fight was supposedly linked to that incident as well, according to George Kimball it was anyway.

Man, he got the absolute **** beaten out of him. It wasn't competitive at all. He beat him up, busted his face apart, hurt him numerous times, and it was still only the 3rd round. Without the cuts, it was a KO in the next round or two.

That was how I remembered it. The interest for a rematch was about zero.

boxing bob has it dead on the fight was nothing to rematch anyway!! Minter was a decent guy but he was not in the same leaque as Hagler. The guy had no pop at all, he had good enough skills but when you step up you better have some power!!! He didn't! Ray.
You yourself wrote what difference it makes Ray. That's the only reason Scott brought it up.

Come on man, no need to be so harsh.

Donkeys are smart. You shouldn't be insulting them.

Who cares the Brits get all upset over boxing and its been like that for many years! All I'm stating is when Brit homelanders stay there their entire careers and have weak opposition brought in they have a hard time adjusting to fighting on the road! It happens alot because they repeat the same senerios over and over again. Take the kids your developing over to Germany or go to Italy and box the same "opponents" you'd be bringing in to fight! Thats all I'm saying. I don't
"hate" any fighters I'm NOT a fan of any one boxer. I can't stand punk kids who talk down to people and call them names from the safety of their mommys house!! Theres a small group here who would benefit from getting in the ring and getting a "feel" for the sport they think they know. You would here alot less words like "bum" and you won't see degrading pics and videos of Pacman or Paul or any other fighter in a compromising state! The disrespect for fighters by people who profess they know the game is a joke. Theres simply some young men who could use a lesson in humility and respect!!
Thats it!! I'm tired of the BS!!! Imagine working in a business for just under 50 years and then have some teenager or twenty year old kid tell you how its done!! I'll do my best to avoid these pinheads who degrade and insult the people who actually work within the sport! Ray.

As I agree that the champion in general is entitled to a rematch, I cannot with certainty say why it didn't happen in this case given the unsatisfactory ending via multiple cuts on Minter's face.

There was however, a racial issue underlying this fight fuelled by Minter telling reporters prefight, that he'd never let a black man take his title. That remark was probably set off by Hagler who, before an earlier fight against brit Chris Finnegan, refused to shake hands stating that he'd never touch white flesh.

The scene turned ugly after Minter was stopped and a roaring crowd of british football hooligans rioted and threw beer and bottles at Hagler who had to leave the arena via an emergency exit escorted by bobbies.

I'd say that no venue nor promotor was prepared to stage a return following this fiasco.

Maybe Minter could have found his way to lets say..........the Boston Garden!
Heres a guy who had some boxing skills but was intimidated against Hagler.
Not the best chin either I think he was stopped 7 out of 8 losses!
Not a great win for Hagler he was a heavy favorite against a guy with to much "home cookin'"!! Ray.
